nikita is a morbid, serious young girl, and everything is about business to her. she's not a depressed person, but she's not by any means cheerful; she's cynical, flat, and holds everyone at a distance. not just an arm's length, either- more like two arms and a leg's length. she doesn't allow anyone to get close to her, and will carefully observe someone for a long time before she deems them trustworthy and unlikely to sabotage her. even then, though, the distance is still an arm's length -- if you really, truly wish to be nikita's genuine friend, you better have a helluva lot of determination and patience, 'cause it's going to take awhile. and if you hurt her, even once? you're going to have to work twice as hard.
of course, we're not talking physical pain here. miss svahild is very good at handling physical pain, but emotional pain? not so much. she'll take a knife in the chest over a betrayal any day of the week plus sunday. because of this over-the-top fear of being undermined by anyone she gets close to, she doesn't express happiness, sadness, or any emotion other than that sick pleasure she gets from taking the life of a guilty man. of course, she'll smile or frown or bear a pissed expression, but she won't voice her feelings or give someone a hug. in fact, she really doesn't like physical contact of any form, as the intimacy frightens her.
nikita is an assassin. it's not 'just a job' for her, either; she's a sadistic little beast, and she truly enjoys her work. she reasons that if someone is asking her to kill a person, then they deserve it. she always follows her instructions to the letter; however, if she's allowed to dispose of the target however she wishes, she prefers a quick, clean death. it's easier to dispose of the body that way, after all.
When around people in a setting that doesn't involve her killing people, Nikita is a stoic, professional young woman; however, depending on what she's doing and who she's with, she can act a certain way without many issues. She'll generally revert to a cold front, though.
APPEARANCE,
Tnikita is a relatively cute young girl, certainly not what one would expect an assassin to look like. she's about five feet tall, but her long legs make her appear taller than she actually is. she has black hair cropped short, with blunt bangs that fall just below her brown -- although they turn bright red at times -- eyes. she wears large round glasses as part of her everyday disguise. she has a curvy build, with full hips and an enormous bust.
for the most part, she dresses like your typical schoolgirl; a blue blazer over a white button-down shirt and short blue skirt, along with knee-high white socks, plain mary janes, and a dark red tie. she can adopt a variety of disguises to suit her purpose, but she typically dresses the same way every day.
WEAPONS,
kanra. Kanra is a tad more useful than your typical katana; as these kinds of blades tend to get scratched or even shatter when they strike bone, Kanra was made with a blade slightly thicker than the norm, which allows her to strike at bone without worry or consequence.
throwing knives. a set of six throwing knives that nikita keeps hidden about her person. general areas are around her ribcage, beneath her skirt, in her sleeves, and sometimes in her shoes.
dagger. a small emergency dagger that she keeps between her breasts.
ITEMS,
nikita sometimes carries a briefcase in which she keeps various important documents, an emergency stash of money, bandages, several different outfits for disguises and formal occasions, wigs, different pairs of glasses, and a 'to-do' list that features only names. when not carrying this, she keeps it beneath the floorboards of the various inns she resides in.
ABILITIES,
kanra's blessing. with this ability, nikita gains a sixth sense of sorts; she can get a vague idea of what people are feeling in the most basic of descriptions: angry, fearful, happy, upset, etc. she sees the emotions (in her mind) in colors; so an angry person would have a red tint, happy would be yellow, upset would be blue, and so on. it essentially makes her aware of everyone around her, which also makes her extremely difficult to sneak up on. passive, extends to up to a 100-foot radius.
kanra's whim. a passive ability that simply enhances nikita's natural senses and observation skills; she can pinpoint small twitches in the muscles of a person, as well as observe any changes in one's facial expression. her enhanced hearing allows her to detect heartbeat, and she can taste different substances in the air; her sense of touch also allows her to find sensitive areas so she can dispatch a person as quickly or slowly as she likes. this allows her to anticipate a person's next move, and dodge or attack accordingly. of course, she can still be tricked, but it's extremely difficult.
A side effect of this ability is that she can pick out details easily enough, but she often has difficulty telling exactly what it is she's looking at. Simply put, she can see the parts of a whole, but often she cannot see the whole itself. When it comes to people, defining features aids her in pinpointing who they are; common objects take her a lot longer, which is why she wears the same thing almost every day.
RACIAL ABILITIES,
Superhuman Endurance, Level Four: No more pain, no more flinching. Unless the blow is mortal, the human will simply ignore it, not even flinch and just keep going. Needless to say, it's pretty much impossible to stop an attack aside from directly defending against it.
HISTORY,
the entire svahild line has been a family of assassins, men and women alike. each child was born and raised to kill in the most effective manner possible. those not healthy enough or those who did not wish to follow in their parent's footsteps were either killed or left on someone's doorstep, depending on what the child's parents were like. unfortunately, this happened to many of the svahild children, so each generation gave birth to more children than the last. nikita was the youngest child born to a couple who had seven children, and she was also one of the best.
from age four to age ten, she was trained in weaponry. swords, daggers, bows, throwing sharp objects, fist fighting, broken bottles, polearms, whatever. she didn't tackle the weapons one at a time, either; she'd begin her fight with a sword, then switch to daggers, then have to use only her hands and her wits to win. then, for six months after she turned eleven, she was sent out into the wilderness of peak province with only a survival knife and the clothes on her back. to be honest, she barely survived, but she was stronger for it.
after her return, nikita was trained in observation and reflexes. she learned to pick up on small details, to use her surroundings to her advantage. she could anticipate an opponent's attack by the movement of his muscles, and judge his mood by the slightest twitch of his facial expression. the girl was trained in this area for the greater part of three years.
after returning from her first mission when she was fourteen years old, she discovered her family's house burned to the ground, neither of her parents nor any of her siblings to be seen. she was somewhat distraught for obvious reasons, but she wasn't all that worried. her family was strong, after all. there had to be survivors, and they would get along fine without her. nikita had always been a cold, stoic girl, and this occasion would not prove to break her.
when she left snowpeak to travel, she met a woman named kanra. it took a long time, but she eventually befriended nikita; the two lived together for a time, but kanra was sickly. after a year, she died, and part of her soul flew into nikita. the remnants of her personality dissipated, but her powers remained; as they grew in powers and nikita separated each one, she named each one after her lost friend. she also gained a katana from the woman, which she calls simply 'kanra' to honor her memory.
after that, there was nothing for nikita to do but travel and work. she still searches for her family at times, but that's not her top priority. she just gets jobs, she finishes jobs, and she moves on.
EXTRAS,
-- due to kanra's whim, Nikita has an illness in her brain called visual agnosia, which impairs the way she views the world. she sees details in stunning clarity, but often misses exactly what the parts add up to.
-- Because of this illness, she perceives things better from her left side than her right (possibly because although she's ambidextrous, she's naturally left-handed).
-- Generally, smelling an object or hearing a person speak will help her identify what or whom it is.
