Okay I've been thinking about this for a while. I have an idea that link should be able to start some sort of whirlwind adventure to somehow add to the plot. Being the player of the main character of TP should have this kind of privilege. It's just a small thought, but maybe it would lead to something really awesome.

I know there's a lot of love for Link on this site. I know he's an important part of the Zelda universe, and I know being able to play him is an honor.
That being said, this isn't his plot. He's a farm boy, if he doesn't want to be important, he doesn't really have to.
That also being said, Nightmare has been using Dark Link to try and snuff out Link. Given time, he'll be relevant in time.
That also being said, if Link doesn't want to be important he doesn't have to be.

Also I think only Link gets access to the Master Sword and Triforce of Courage (if they crop up in plot)

Correcto. Link's already got some special stuff in that he can nab the Master Sword & Triforce of Courage. They don't even have to happen, if Link doesn't want to register them, I won't make him. If he doesn't want to go get the Master Sword, I won't make him.
Besides, some fairly small parts of TP have happened here and there, he's already met Midna, if that's what you're concerned about.
