A Dreaded Shadow
RACE,Sheikah Dominant, Sheikah/Minish/Oocca.
This interesting creature is a strange concoction of Hyrule’s races, as one looks at her, they could swear they can see at least three or four traits creating her physical appearance. The truth is, she actually is a strange and somewhat exotic mix, she’s part Oocca, Sheikah and Minish. One parent baring full Sheikan blood and the other was a Hybrid of both Minish and Ooccan descent.
GENDER,Female.
BATTLE ROLE,Rogue/Assassin.
She specializes in stealth, the best way to categorize her is either a rouge or an Assassin, she usually works alone, and is also rather adept to reconnaissance and over-watch roles. Her high mobility, quick attacks, agile movements and intelligent and cunning thinking make her a dangerous and effective stealth role.
SEXUALITY,Closet-Pansexual who poses as an Asexual.
Oddly, she isn’t exactly sure what she feels towards others; in all honesty, Videl shows little passion to anyone, even her own family. Though she shows no boundaries with her personal attraction towards sexes, she also seems to totally deny being able to feel any emotional connection to anyone, and acts as if love is simply an emotion unknown to her psyche.
AGE,Twenty-Two.
ALLIANCE,Currently, she holds absolutely no ties to anyone, this can change considering she is a hired hand, however her work is expensive and she always demands pay upfront and on time. She is and will always consider herself neutral, as any and all affairs to her are small and unimportant. Even though she is part Sheikah, she shows absolutely no loyalty toward the Royal Family, and will even attempt to assassinate them if hired too. This is the same for the Ooccan’s royal family- and the Minish.
PERSONALITY,Positive – Videl is a strong being in heart and mind. Though she relinquishes most or all of her passion to her profession, to those who hire her, she has an unbridled sense of Loyalty to them, no matter the consequences. She tends to draw the line at world destruction however, and also has a distaste for complete genocide- but, even on a dark journey, will she travel with you; giving all of her skills and even her life to your services. This becomes a form of extreme Diligence as well, as she will strive on, even if her arms have been taken, her legs broken- blinded, and deaf. Videl’s dark compassion for killing also leaves her vulnerable to the ideals of revenge, and fighting foes that she deems worthy enough to stand before her. She will hold vendettas against those she has not defeated- and knows are talented enough to maybe kill her.
As you can see, fear is something that this woman seems to ignore completely, and can’t really feel at all maybe. Yes, in some words she is Fearless. She’s lived most of her life in fear; one could say she is quite tired of it. Her lack of fear is most likely connected to her diligence, and this may propel her into bad situations considering she cares little of her own safety – during the trials put before her. Luckily however, to many her fearlessness is something to be looked up too, and her humble and Respectful nature keeps her from appearing as overly confident and cocky. However, despite all this bravery and harshness, she does possess a very soft side under all that dark and murky coldness, she can be very Sympathetic towards even those she barely knows, and sometimes she will give things to them, senselessly in order to either make them feel better, or help them survive.
Other than all that, the last redeemable trait this woman possesses is her Intelligence, Sheikan lore, Minish lore and even Ooccan Legendariums are burned into her memory. She possesses much knowledge of the darker secrets in this world.
Negative – However, despite what you just heard, this woman is far from perfect, in her lies a sadness and hatred that has manifested into a Heartless and merciless mindset. She will kill absolutely anything if hired to -women, children, elderly, it doesn’t matter. As some might find her ways of thinking sickening, she would actually agree with you, even she knows what she does is wrong, but an ill darkness within her drives her still, it drives her to madness. And in that madness, you will find a Blood-Thirsty being, driven to the darkest of despairs by her past. She feels the only way to actually live, is to kill and that living in itself destroys life as it goes on. It’s odd some say, it goes against her sympathetic nature, but one must remember that she only feels sympathy for those she isn’t hired to kill.
With such dark ways of thinking, it isn’t surprising that she is naturally Distant from humanity and any other species. All her life, being a hybrid has brought her only shame and distaste, as the majority of people she has met has shown her unkind and hateful emotions, she’s shunned everyone away, even those who act or seem like they care. She feels that everyone is out to get her, that this world was not meant for someone like herself, that her odd and alien appearance has brought her only misfortune. She’s become quite Twisted thanks to this, in the back of her mind, she can easily be set off by simply thinking that everyone believes she is a monster; and, thanks to this she wears clothing that hides herself entirely from the world, dressing almost as a dark wraith or some dreaded being that governs over death itself.
Due to her past, she simply can’t escape it. Always behind her, always tormenting her, she acts as if she can never let go of the horrors and destruction that she has caused. She’s a Brooding, hurt individual. That’s simply letting it off easy, there’s a lot of turmoil going on within her, like raging storm. And this does nothing to ease her Vengefulness, deep inside, she wants to get back at all those who hurt her in the past, and she hopes to do so through means of her profession.
APPEARANCE,Describing Videl is an odd interpretation in itself. She is a very striking and perplexing individual to look at, it almost seems as if someone got a couple animals and then a person and blended them together. Her body is actually rather thin, though she doesn’t lack curves, which may be her Sheikan blood doing this. Her skin is pale white, littered with scars from her previous encounters as an Assassin. Her face is actually very soft and despite being older looks very young for her age. Her eyes are a deep blue, which might be an Ooccan trait. Her hair is white, Sheikan blood, which falls all the way to her ankles; it’s a mystery how she keeps it up so well. However, right when you thought it was somewhat normal, atop her head are ears almost reminiscent of a Jackal and a fox.
Then, almost as if to confuse you even more, she even sports the tail of a fox, matching in color with her own hair, though it grays out toward the end. And then, to top it off is her wings, yes, she has white wings striking out her back, interestingly, and most likely due to a genetic screw-up, these wings can barely hold her up, she can barely even glide with them to tell you the truth, they appear absolutely useless otherwise. Clothing wise, she actually prefers to wear a black nightdress that she might have made herself. It’s falling apart to tell you the truth, however, its black design and outward nature makes it perfect for blending into the night, with that is a shall around her neck and head that helps hide her face during missions, her legs are covered by thigh high boots black, like the dreadful dress she wears.
However, the features I just explained to you may actually be somewhat unneeded, as you will most likely never see them; you see, she gave up on trying to appear normal long ago, and now she dresses herself in full robes, tattered and blackened by the trials she’s put it through. This drape acts as a full shadow to her true nature. And, in this mound of cloth, she appears wraithlike and deathly to all those who look at her. You cannot see her face, instead a black void, an empty shadow peers back at you with relentless, yet subtle intimidation. Like death contemplating your very demise. It shrouds out, the wearer appearing as if they are gliding as they stride. And not even the sun can raise the light of this dark cloth, ever so light, yet appearing so heavy.
It is impossible to know what she looks like beneath it. Gender, flesh, ears tails; hair… all of it is hidden behind this black shroud.
WEAPONS,
“Ascendancy.” / Chain-Whip: Like most Sheikan warriors, or at least the ones that studied in the art of stealth, one weapon will always be remembered. The chain-whip, a spring propelled weapon capable of grasping onto enemies, objects and terrain and pull them close. Ascendency is a custom model, developed by herself. Instead of a spring action, it is a bow propelled chain, the tip is a sharp cross- shape pike capable of hooking onto rocks and piercing into flesh. The chain itself extends five-feet across and once fired, it needs to be mounted into their groves again.
“Legerdemain.” / Long-Sword: Is a long-sword shaped almost like a expanding cross, the blade is lined through its spine with Runes of Sheikan decent. The hilt is rectangular, sprawling down to the very sides of the wielders hand, acting as a hand guard. The handle is lined with snake skin design and texture; a pearl black glint shines at the core of the handle, the black is actually a dark heavy iron, it’s actually a mix between obsidian and steel. It also possesses a sheath made from black leather like material, the inside a steel construct giving the sheath a sturdy and strong appearance.
“Precision.” Wrist-Mounted-Crossbow: This crossbow is designed to go around the wrist, resting at its top, below the wielders grasp is an iron handle that when tugged, fires off a bolt at the enemy. The bolts are heavy and made of black iron, which is why she only carry’s about five with her. It’s structure is made of an Elk Wood that is very strong and resilient, the bow-string a thick black cord of twisted leather. The handle actually carries a symbol of a horse with an arrow through its head as its star design. It fires rounds hard enough to penetrate iron armor and still cause dangerous harm to the opponent.
“Veiled.” / Throwing Needles: Another weapon that all Sheikah remember is the stealthy throwing needle, a weapon that travels at quick speeds, almost silent until it nears the enemy. These six inch long needles strike with deadly accuracy when thrown correctly. The simple rods are tucked everywhere around her, in her boots, strapped to her legs, between her bosom, its hard to tell when she has ran out, however, the max she tends to carry is forty, fifty with the cloak on.
“Seize.” / Claw-Gauntlets: Her most infamous weapons are her gauntlets, the sharp edges extending to about three inches. The black iron used barely glows in the light; the edges pierce skin with little force. They go to her wrist; however, that’s only if connected to the cloak as well, in most situations, without the cloak, only the finger stems are left on them.
“Halt.” / Caltrops: Simple caltrops, if you don’t know what a caltrop is, it’s a small little metal item curved so that when thrown, a part is always pointing up, the edges are extremely sharp, and when stepped on, can penetrate a boot easily, and your flesh. She carries two bags of ten, adding up to twenty caltrops.
ITEMS,Wooden Carving: This strange wooden carving comes in the shape of a winged animal, resembling something close to a griffon. Why it is in her possession remains a mystery to many, but her history hold the answers to its creation…
Glass Vials: These simple glass bottles have red cork’s and a small ring to allow easy opening and closing. They hold about a pint of liquid each and are rather sturdy. She carries six all together.
ABILITIES,
Umbraic Chant: Chant of the Blood Smog; “Black we come, and black we go… us shadows bring only woe. Behind a veil of blood and bight, we’re covered in fog this horrid night.”
There was a form of Sheikan magic some considered evil, while others considered it powerful and useful. Blood was an interesting form of energy, it’s in every living thing, though different in species, it always contained powerful vitae. Umbraic Chants are a dark form of divine summoning; they specialize in using the blood of fallen foes or the conjurer to invoke up menacing attacks and abilities for all those unfortunate enough to meet the blood wielders presence. But what these spells do in their entirety, makes them all the more terrifying, this particular spell aids in the masking and disappearance of the user. When the chant is uttered, the blood evaporates from where it is poured, becoming a mist of red, that hides the user from view. Its obscuring view can last for quite the while, five posts at the maximum. However that is not the only thing this blood smog does. Those who walk into it, are suddenly assaulted with feelings, dreadful cold feelings, those whose minds do not stay sharp will succumb to the smog’s ever present despair, poisoning your mind in fear. Of course this means you’d have to be in this fog for a long while, the entirety of the five posts.
The spell begins by drawing blood from either the user or the fallen. Videl can use this spell about five times before actually being able to feel the effects of losing so much blood. Her maximum in one fight with this spell is fifteen, and after five she starts to feel the effects of the blood drawing, which is why it’s much easier for her to take the blood of another cast it. Once the spell is casted, a two-post cooldown comes into effect.
Umbraic Chant: Chant of the Blood Shriek, “Through the night their shrill screams echoed, like a siren’s shriek, it glassed the minds of all our kind.”
This chant taps into the former emotions of the being through their blood, once it has made a connection, it draws all the fear and anguish of that persons emotions and allows the user to utilize a powerful shriek capable of drawing those unknown to its effects into complete despair. In order for this to work, she needs the blood of someone else, not her own and from a vial she must sing the chant to the blood contained inside it until it begins to glow a cold blue instead of red. When the user drinks the blood potion, they, instead of speaking, scream and screech shrieks, audible from a mile away. Up close, the pitch itself is enough to make one want to tear their ears off, it causes disorientation, enough to cause stumbling and headaches. The person is also overcome with cold feelings, they a tapered and well trained mind can easily keep such feelings out during battle. When the user drinks a vial, they are limited to three shrieks and then the effects wear off, leaving the users voice hoarse and quiet - prolonged use can even destroy one’s voice all together - the spell itself has a five post cooldown,
RACIAL ABILITIES,
Superspeed – LV 4
6x the speed of a regular human being.
HISTORY,
Videl wasn’t born in the lands of Hyrule, instead, she was birthed in the islands not far from the Gerudo Deserts. Her parents were both sea scavengers, her mother a mix between Minish and Oocca, and her father was a Sheikah. The islands were peaceful, a lot less undignified and dangerous as some people would imagine. However, it still was no place for a child to be raised. Though, to some Videl was a child best not born, the strange mix of animals within the creature’s form confused them greatly, terrified some, and even mesmerized them. But the captain of the island population knew otherwise. He saw something else in Videl, money. She was a freak of nature, a creature so exotic that everyone would pay to see her. Between animal and human, her appearance was simply unspoken of.
When she was only four, the captain and a couple of his men secretly kidnapped the young girl. Videl was a shy and easily frightened young lass, the life of gazing and cruel words had made even a young four year old like herself weary of others. But without her mother or father, the girl would seem to lose hope, kept in a wooden cage for days as the ship sailed to the desert coast. From there the pirates made a fast march through the desert, the howling sands becoming so strong that they lost themselves inside the vast wasteland. However, one fateful night, the Pirates were attacked in their sleep, by what? Large scavenging birds, diving from the sky and hoisting them into the air, carrying them off to their doom. Everyone was taken, everyone, except Videl.
Videl’s cage was shattered during the attack, the young child left to fend for herself inside a vast desert wasteland. She walked for days, until she was so weak and starving, that she collapsed in the sand, a powerful hail of dust surrounding her and everywhere she looked. But, through such a hopeless situation, there was a light; a travelling Gerudo by the name of Huneda took the girl from the Wasteland’s grasp to small collection of Gerudo citizens and their village. Though the group was baffled by the strange girl’s appearance, it did not bother them. They raised Videl, naming her Miali; Huneda treating her as if she was like a daughter of her own. However, Huneda realized that teaching the girl the way of her people may not be safe for her. When she turned Eleven, Huneda decided to take her child to the city and hopefully figure out something about her true parents.
A horse ride lasting for a day or two ended with Huneda and Videl in the outer city. Searching for weeks, they searched feverously within the depths of this large city. But no one knew a single thing about her. Huneda soon realized though, that the more they looked, the more people became interested, people watching Videl as if she was some kind of prize to them. However, when talk of a hybrid creature got out to the Knights, the situation ultimately changed for the worse. Some explained that Huneda was harboring a monster, some form of creature capable of malicious violence or some ludicrous idea like that. It wasn’t long before the knights were surrounding the two, accusing Huneda of creating some form of fiend. Though she tried to protect Videl with all her might, there were far too many, and with all her valor, she created an opening to allow Videl an escape.
Huneda was captured and kept in the prisons…
And escape she did. Into the lonely lands of Hyrule, the young girl hiked and climbed. And through the mountains she arrived to the fabled village, Kakariko. She carefully took note to hide her ears, wings, and tail under a hat and other articles. She lived as a street urchin, barely surviving on her own. However, what she lost, she gained something else in return. Despite her mysterious nature, the girl became a favorite amongst the people there. And in this town she found something else, in the deep of the Village’s graves, found old excerpts tomes and more of Sheikan legends, arts, and mythology. Compelled for unknown reasons, she drove herself to learn them. However, what she didn’t learn was one she found locked away behind a tomb of its own. Magick that she could only describe as Cruormancy. Such dark enchantment was something she never knew existed, and had she known it was from her very heritage, she would have been even more confused.
However, on to the age of fifteen; she decided that the lower world was simply not for her, she had so many mysteries to her true race, sometimes she thought she was something new all in its own, but then soon she realized she was actually a blend of things, in her, she saw Sheikah, she saw Oocca and she saw the Minish. Her eyes turned to the sky, the idea of flying, The City in the Sky. Such a place may view her differently, if only so little. So she left the village, searched for days until she finally found a way, an Oocca promised to teleport her there, only if she helped it with a manner or problem of its own, apparently, a thief stole the Oocca’s belongings, and he asked her to get them back. Videl considered this the first test of her Sheikan training, and rushed off to find the culprit. And did she? Well, in no time to spare, she had the thief in hand, dragging him back to the scene of the crime by his leg.
Honoring their promise, the young Oocca teleported their way to the Sky city itself. Videl was captivated by these people, by their architecture, their culture. She almost felt as if though, she was finally at home. But, the feelings did not last. She entered a small inn, taking her hood off to reveal her ears to the air. People stared, the Oocca there were indeed curious, but they didn’t seem to make a fuss about her. Suddenly, the door was kicked open, a group of ill intent pirates making their way inside. As she turned, they immediately centered their gaze on her. “Ther’ you are my lil’ puppet.” One of them said, “Been search’n fer you fer ten years now,” She listened, staring back with confusion. She could sense the hostility within them; she realized that these men weren’t here for a friendly reunion. “Thought we done lost ya in the deserts, but then we heard a lil’ rumor, a lil’ rumor from yer Kakariko friends.”
Was she truly betrayed by her people, did they want her to be caught? Suddenly, she felt very alone, even as the pirates began to close in, she realized quickly enough that no one, not even the Oocca in this room were going to help her. People were already running and screaming as the Pirates drew their weapons, warning Videl that if she attempted to run, they slay her without a thought in mind. However, something in her snapped at that moment, Videl was living the life of a shell, living in a world that only wanted to destroy her. No matter what she did, she would be alone. The terrible realization woke in her a fury that transpired from her fear and cornering. And she unleashed a savage attack on the pirates, caught off guard by her wicked speed and destructive attacks; she tore the men to pieces with the small dagger she used on her own.
Though she was wounded, a slash across her waist; she prevailed, the Ooccan protectors rushing over to view the catastrophic destruction she had created. In pain, and yearning for help, she reached out to the knights for assistance. However, what she received was drawn swords; the massacre of the men was enough to set off a warning between them and the strange creature before them. They warned her that imprisonment was to be her fine, or death. However, as those words finished something dark and maleficent began to crawl its way into existence, the blood of the fallen foes began to converge and spiral around Videl. A chant heard underneath the darkness of the blood before her:
“Black we come, and black we go… us shadows bring only woe. Behind a veil of blood and bight, we’re covered in fog this horrid night.”
And so it happened, the blood burst into clouds of red, and within the drape of scarlst, Videl began to kill, relentlessly, madly, becoming a beast in mind. Any person that walked, was an enemy that day. It lasted for almost thirty minutes. So many were dead and all that remained were pools of blood. But Videl was nowhere to be found, for the shattered being was making her way back to Kakariko, vengeance burning in her like a wicked curse. When she did return, every night someone from the past would fall. And Videl would go right back to training. The locals described her as a humanoid chimera, a monster to be killed on first site. News has even reached Hyrule city and many became fearful of her.
But she began to grow off that fear, deciding that killing could be an easy way to release her anger and make money as well. So, she advertised. The eighteen year old Videl would kill her foes and then with their blood write a symbol on the wall, a “V,” with a twin edged cross in its center. It became known as the “Vagrant Terror,” a symbol left by The Dreaded Shadow. Soon, she gave up on her looks, her life and devoted herself to the dark arts assassination. She dressed herself in a full cloak, so that people would see her and realize it was simply time to die.
She’s carried this life on for many a year, without pause and sacrifice.
EXTRAS,
Glenspear Island: The island Videl was born on is still considered Hyrule territory, even visible from a map, the island has a hook like a appearance and is singularly small compared to some others that may be around the coast lines of the country, in fact the Gerudo deserts are visible from the coast of the island, which are usually marred in wicked sandstorms. The tropical flora is something of its own and is rather known for its odd fruits and strange landscape.
