Okay so as someone who puts a lot of time into his characters, usually only plays one character, and has about half the board gunning for his head here is my two cents: I totally support the death without permission thing, and I'm against the cheaper revival (actually I'm in favor of a much more expensive revival and to have it only be usable once, you are coming back from the dead people it isn't easy).
I play for realism (or as realistic as you can get in a world with magic, Fairies, rock people, and giant pig demons XD ) and there are situations where people are going to die. Yes it sucks, no it isn't fun when all your plans come up for naught, but get the hell over it. Merik Dragmire isn't the main character, Nightmare Darklight isn't the main character, Ryan Green isn't the main character; if you want a world where your character is going to be powerful and unkillable thing around go write fanfiction because I don't want to play with your worthless character.
We are all pieces of a machine here and sometimes pieces need to be replaced, it happens.
Anyway my little throw in, BYE!!!!!!

I'm gonna have to vote against it, simply cause I could think of a number of reasons my character would kill others. All he'd need to do would be wait til their in a position of vulnerability then bam. Not that I have any intent to go around killing people, but that's beside the point.
It's just a lot of needless hassle, and too many people could just BS reasons for killing. How are you gonna say it's not an IC reason for their character? You don't know all of the complex details of their character, so it'd be a lot harder to tell than you're making it seems as well.
I mean, honestly, I could have a reason for Maverick to want to kill Leviathan in the first thread they're in together. And I'm pretty sure if Maverick got into a fight Ryan would have his back. The only thing that would be a way of stopping Maverick from killing would be Ryan, and that'd be a gamble.
Too much hassle, imo. Plus I'm lazy, I don't want to have to constantly worry about people trying to kill me. That would mean I'd have to actually keep thinking about battle scenarios, and that'd just get boring after a while. I like my lazy ways damn it >>

To Merik! Good to hear.
To Maverick. So your saying that you support breaking character to keep people alive? Honestly. If you fought Leviathan and won. Even as things stand right now. I would ALLOW you to kill him. Simply because thats how it should go.
To think a hero of some kind would let a monster live. Is simply ridiculous. And to think the converse, that a monster would let them live. Is equally ridiculous.
Again, keep in mind everything I said in my first post. Attack hits have to be confirmed by BOTH players. And death has to be the only logical end to the scenario.
Technically the only thing I'm suggesting thats changed. Is that permission is implied the moment you decide to fight back against someone.

If you don't want to die you can always rely on the unbeatable autododge! Until someone calls you on godmoding. >.>
Or you could just write like crap and delay your posts as long as possible so the person who would kill you either loses interest or gives up.

Maverick would be as equally likely to let a monster live as he would be to kill it. Especially if it was capable of sentient thoughts, etc. He doesn't have to kill when he beats something, it's his choice. And just cause you'd let me, doesn't mean I would anyways.
If it's beaten to a pulp and can't move, there's not much of a chance of it doing anything else. Besides, you want a reason for not killing? There's a simple quote that gives enough reason 'Mercy is the sign of a great man.'
I prefer the permission needing anyways, cause it lets me show off that side of him more. You say it's unrealistic, but I think it's realistic for his character to show his enemies mercy. He can do it on a whim as well, because that's how I made him. And like I said I'm lazy, this makes things simpler for me.
and honestly, I'm not really worried about anyone killing Maverick off.

There's nothing saying you HAVE to kill someone when you beat them in this ruling. It just creates the option for those who would.

eh, I'd rather just not have every battle being counted as a death battle. It'll just get annoying after a while, imo. And I'd rather just not deal with the whole thing of 'you fought back you're agreeing to a death battle'. It'll just get tiresome to deal with every fight as a death fight, and make it less fun, imo. Cause then I'll just have to make a list of people that'd want Maverick dead, and yeah, laziness does not like extra work, etc.
I'm lazy, I don't like all the extra work this is gonna bring. Thus, I'm against it >>

A disclaimer is that this is my first forum rp and I have yet to work with a system other than the one on EE. That being said my two cents for what its worth is that if someone didn't want their character to die they had the ability to limit or flat out ignore the risk by not having abilities and marking their character as a pacifist. Some people's characters are just flat out stronger than others but the gap can be covered by good role playing and bitching out/ running away. My character is not the most optimized on the board as a matter of fact far from it but I believe that if a fight happens I could always roll aways.
A counter offer that might be nice, once again I am talking out of my ass here, Is that people would have to mark a thread no pvp/death if they did not want to be ganked after a grueling battle against a dragon or something.

@ Dagorn: These are good points. Particularly the thread marking one. As I see this applies under my suggested rule of. " If they don't want to die, do not place them in a situation were it is an option". As for the pacifist point. Unfortunate thing is Dagorn that some people whilst not liking the idea of their char dying. Do not wish for their char to not be considered able to fight. As paradoxical as this is. Its just the way of things.

Dagorn raises another good point in the roleplaying thing. While not everyone has abilities that match, roleplaying covers a huge gap. My character Nairore, for example, if I haven't mentioned this, is a prodigy swordsman, better than most Hylian Knights. Her abilities do not reflect this and are actually somewhat lackluster (which I aim to fix in a revamp once I have all the slots bought) but then to take a slot just to say she's a good swordsman would be a waste. That's something that comes out in roleplaying, in decision making and so forth. Skill isn't determined so much by abilities (once more with exception to dragons, who, abilities or no, can just throw their weight on top of someone to win).

A small concern I have to say is that 5, 10, and 20 cost for rez seems abit to cheap. I have only been on the site less than two weeks and it seems that i could rez myself 8,3, or 2 times. That could be a significant enough number that death becomes just your average defeat. I do not know how much of a reward you get for a finished thread butIf we include the 3 I have finished then that is a buttload of respawns. I have a bad feeling that that cheapen the over all experience of the role-play. (once again I am talking out of my ass so take it with a grain of salt)
The only bad thing I can see is if you buy a magic weapon and then get jumped. (Thus making the Goron Its dangerous to go alone power even more useful). I was curious what the other usurers would consider a fair resurrection price.

Nightmare wants to make it cheap so that progress isn't lost and death is merely an inconvenience, not a disaster.

Well, looks like there are some counterarguments. I'll extend until resolved.
Anyway, I can see both sides, but honestly, if the death thing passes, the reduction is happening, that can't be changed. If I actually raised the prices (or hell, just kept them the same), people would fight tooth and nail OOCly to not have it go through. I'd rather not have 3/4 of my PMs be "X IS GODMODDING AND TRYING TO KILL ME" and "X IS A DOUCHE BAG CAN YOU PLEASE BAN HIM". If I reduce it (5 rupees is the most likely number), people are less likely to raise a fuss about it, as it's barely even a slap on the wrist.
Not like it's impossible to justify. In most of the actual games, you got your arsenal of fairies ready to go by the second dungeon with some cleverness.
Plus I'll be honest. If this passes, Night is going to treat death like a typical "They killed Kenny! D:" situation.

After reading Nights posts I withdraw any objections I have on my part. Faries can rez and rupees are in abundance. *Not that I plan on doing any life or death battles*

I SUPPORT THIS. now that you have the sole opinion that really matters, it can go through. But in all seriousness, I think it's a good idea. Especially since I have a penchant for killing characters and then bringing them back two weeks later (at least, when I bother to ICly kill them). Besides, it gives fairies an actual purpose-- I mean, uh, assassins and murderers ftw? :'D As long as people aren't douches and go around godmodding just because they can kill without explicit permission, I'm all for this. Slaughter ftw.
