(OOC: If you don't post for three days without a warning, you get a strike. If you get three strikes, you forfeit. If you get two strikes in a row, you forfeit.) As you enter the arena, you are immediately greeted by cheers of spectators. It's a small arena, square, with marble stone. Obviously not meant to match the grandiose nature of the coliseum, but it'll have to do. Around you are rows upon rows of seats, filled with spectators, watching your every move.
Your opponent stood in front of you. The magic barriers that would protect the audience from you two went up. The barrier was a unique thing. It was in fact, powered by the audience, strengthened by the mana each member had, little or small. Not to mention that the thing was blessed by Princess Zelda herself. There pretty much wasn't a force in the world that could shatter this thing, not without godlike power backing it up.
With that under the way, it was time to roll. The announcer brought the attention of the world to you and your opponent.
"And for our first round, we have... Nightmare Darklight, the Bane of Kings versus..." The announcer paused for a moment, leaving everyone in suspense.
"Nikita Savhilda? Sava... no, that's not it... S-Vah-- No... oh forget it. Nikita S-V-A-H-I-L-D-A!"
Another voice chimed, apparently there were two people, so this fight apparently had some form of commentary. Yay.
"Should... we revive the Emperor if he's the one to go down? I mean, he does lead the monsters and all..."
"Ainur, Ainur! They take grave offense to that name, apparently. And we have to preserve the integrity of the games! ... Even if we really don't want to..."
"I suppose..." [/blockquote][/size] BATTLE TIME, GOOOOOOO!

Oh, wonderful. Nikita got to fight the Emperor of Monsters -- Ainur, rather. At least the announcers hadn't known anything about her; they couldn't even figure out how to pronounce her last name. It was much better than some others, at least. Apparently there was some fool of a man who announced himself as an assassin. Truly, those who claimed to be of her trait were getting more and more stupid every generation.
The teen sighed to herself and blinked, her eyes turning crimson as they opened again. Her gaze flicked from point to point on her opponent's body, noting the thick leather he used for armor and other minute, unimportant details. She could cut through leather easily enough, but she didn't have any idea what his abilities were or if he wore protection beneath his visible armor. She'd have to test him out, she supposed.
Nikita pulled out her katana, wielding the blade in her left hand, and pulled a small throwing knife from a sheath strapped to her left thigh. Without much ceremony she threw the dagger, the weapon aimed directly for the Emperor's head.
summary: Blahblah, scanned Nightmare, threw a small throwing dagger at him. Blah.

Nightmare grimaced slightly at the sight of his opponent. So it turned out that his opponent for the first round would be a teenage girl. The Emperor didn't like this, purely because he didn't like the idea of killing a child. Though there was also the fact that no matter how this went, it couldn't possibly look good. Lose, and look like a horrifically weak leader, which would no doubt get him problems, or win, and get flak for beating up a teenage girl. This was seriously a fight that he simply could not win, in the moral sense of course. He was pretty sure that in the actual battle itself, that he would come out on top of it.
The Emperor looked at the claw rings that extended from his gloves. He figured that they would probably see usage here, rather than his sword. But he would wait for the girl to make the first move. At least he could mitigate the political damage somewhat if he wasn't the first one to strike. Truth be told, he had expected her to pull out some weapon and charge him, but he was surprised for a moment when she chucked the throwing knife at him. Not so much at the idea of her throwing something at him, but the fact that she knew how to aim it. Even from its brief moment in the air, he could tell that this girl had practice, this was not instinct taking over for her, he could tell that very easily.
So he acted appropriately; he leaned to the left a bit, putting his skull out of harm's way of the throwing knife. Honestly, the fact that she seemed to know how to actually fight made Nightmare feel so much better about this fight. And seeing as people clearly saw her showing herself as capable, maybe he wouldn't look like such a bastard if he ended up winning. But there was still the matter of countering the throwing knife. Yes, such a tactic would be rather simple. It was one projectile, not many. It was not an unavoidable attack, but merely one that would get the fight started, one that would cause the first exchange of blows.
With his head now out of the way, his arm moved, and nearly in the blink of an eye, his left hand gripped the hilt of the throwing knife, stopping it dead in its tracks. Mentally, he took aim at his target, aiming not for the head, or for the chest, but for her right knee. He was aiming to inhibit the girl's movement, rather than immediately kill. With his aiming finished, he threw the knife right back at her, the blade whirling through the air as it headed back towards its true owner. Nightmare relaxed his stance. He had countered, he would wait for her to make the next move, and act appropriately when that time came.
She wasn't the only one who was trained.
