She was free! If only for a little while, but hey, she'd take what she could get. She had her duties, yeah, and she'd learn how to be a princess, but jeez. Her lessons were just so boring, and this rapier in her hand... well, it wasn't.
Really. She was an eleven-year-old tomboy princess. What do you expect?
She was pretty good at magic already, so changing her hair color and style wasn't too big a deal. Then she put on a new outfit, snuck out of the castle, and voila! She was just a regular human girl, free to do whatever. So she grabbed her rapier from where she had hidden it just outside the castle, and meandered her way into Hyrule Field, where she started waving it around like she knew what she was doing.
Laine hit a tree a few times with the thin edge, but when pieces of bark began to fly off, she felt bad; so she whirled around and started slashing at the air, wildly and without any kind of skill whatsoever.
Oh yeah. She was great at this.[/style] |

Goodnight demon slayer, goodnight Now it's time to close your tired eyes
Alexander really didn't like staying cooped up in the barracks some nights. He was eleven years old, he felt invincible, and he feared no monster, not even the boogeyman. Because he felt that he couldn't really stay in the barracks tonight, he grabbed a practice sword, still sharp, but meant to be used on things like logs rather than people. From there, he simply snuck out of the barracks, out of the castle grounds, and through the castle town as he made his way to Hyrule Field. There was also the fact that he may or may not have caught a certain Hylian Princess sneaking out of the castle and felt the need to make sure she didn't get in trouble. He had known her long enough to know about her disguise, thankfully.
It wasn't that hard to make it through Hyrule Field. He got ambushed by stalchildren quite often, but they were never any real threat. Their claws weren't exactly sharp, and while they could hurt, they were very rarely fatal. Not to mention they were also really fragile, so one or two swipes from the practice sword could render them pretty harmless. That was why Alexander had brought it along after all, for protection. Thankfully, bandits didn't really seem to roam at this time of night, preferring the day, as no one save merchants traveled at night. Even then, most bandits usually left a kid sneaking out alone, mainly on the grounds that they never had anything valuable. Not to mention that from what Alexander had seen, prisoners did not take well to children getting hurt. At all.
After a bit though, Alexander approached a tree. He noticed a few marks on it, and by the tree, a young redhead swinging a rapier. Yep, that was the girl that he ended up sneaking out to look after. Sheathing his practice blade, Alexander closed the distance between himself and the tree, approaching the young girl. "... Zelda? What're you doing?" Alexander inquired, wondering why in the world she was flailing a rapier around in the air. Not to mention that she actually had something to train on, namely the tree. He was also somewhat curious as to how she would end up trying to explain this situation to him.

She actually felt that she was doing better than she had the last time she had snuck out to practice, and, to an extent, she was. At least she could keep the sword in her hands this time.
Soft huffs escaped her lips as she slashed around; she was exhausting herself, actually, but she was downright determined to get better at sword fighting. Her father learned how to use a sword, so why not her? Sure, Zelda has guards around her day in and day out, but better safe than sorry, right?
Oh, who was she kidding. She just wanted to learn 'cause it looked fun.
And fun it was! Even if she wasn't very good at it. Still, she could do a few nifty things, like... a spin attack! Right! She could totally do a spin attack. She thought. She could try to, anyway. And she was about to when a voice just came up out of nowhere.
The princess jumped and spun around, letting out a soft eep of surprise, which quickly turned into a sigh of relief when she saw who it was. "Oh, Alexander, hi," she said, still panting slightly.
Then she realized just what the situation was.
Zelda, the young princess of Hyrule, out in the middle of Hyrule Field in the middle of the night, practicing with a rapier. Great. Just amazing.
"O-oh, um, see, this isn't what it looks like, I-I was just kind of... you know... um..." A faint blush rose up onto her cheeks as she tried to stammer out an excuse, the concept of staying calm and thinking this through totally avoiding her. Eventually, though, she sighed and gave up, averting her gaze so that she didn't have to look the blond boy in the eye.
"I just wanted to learn," she said softly, "and I didn't think any of the instructors would teach me. So I sneak out here." Sheepishly she looked up at him through her auburn bangs, a half-hopeful smile on her lips. "Please don't tell my father?" [/style] |

Goodnight demon slayer, goodnight Now it's time to close your tired eyes
Alexander had to admit, it was kind of funny when one caught Zelda in a situation like this. Granted, it wasn't very often, but watching the flustered princess try and bluff her way out of it was something to see. He would never say it to her face, but to him, Zelda was something of a bad liar. Though it wasn't really a bad thing. It just meant that she was quite honest, unable to really tell a lie. He had to admit, it was something he could admire, and in a way, it was quite endearing to him, not that he would admit it that easily. Though it was clear that she was fairly embarrassed about the situation, and worried about the consequences. He could tell that from her sheepishly asking not to go back and tell her father.
He really didn't have much intention of going all the way back to the king. First off, he couldn't really make a fuss over her sneaking out, as he was doing the same thing. Not to mention that he would actually have to explain just how he knew she was sneaking out, which meant that he would've have to have snuck out to find out, which just would've made the whole thing even more chaotic. Not to mention that Zelda was her friend, and that busting them for something like this usually wasn't the brightest idea. Even if they were venturing out into the dangerous night, if you counted fragile stalchildren as dangerous, anyway.
Instead he just took a few steps towards the disguised Zelda before pointing at the royal rapier that she was using. "The rapier isn't really a weapon meant for slashing or cutting. Its thin blade is more for piercing and stabbing. It's not really made for all the flashy tricks that we've seen some people do." She wanted to learn how to use that thing right? Well, first off, if that was going to be the case, he had to tell her what its actual use was. The weapon she had favored wasn't really good for what she was doing. Though perhaps if she learned the real thing, then maybe she might not want to move onto something more flashy. Rapiers were considered deadly for a reason, after all.
