APPEARANCE,Jacqueline is of average height, managing to keep a whip-slender feminine figure while still being mostly hard muscle. Aside from a deep, dark tan, she is fairly unremarkable, really. Pale blue eyes, raven hair cut short so as not to get in the way. She walks like a fighter, looks like a fighter and hits like a fighter, but she might be called beautiful after a twelve-hour scrubbing and a makeover. A good word to describe her would be ‘striking’. With curling red tattoos over her hard eyes, she looks kind of like she’s about to headbutt a hole through a wall.
As for clothing, Jacq doesn’t really change things up much. She’s always wearing at least some form of armor along with a coat and at least one piece of argyle clothing. She doesn’t dress to attract, but to fight. Also for keeping warm. [image]
WEAPONS,A masterfully crafted zweihander is her main weapon, which she carries around almost everywhere. It is engraved with the Gerudo symbol, and tightly inscribed with Gerudo script. She’s also usually carrying around a dagger and a garrote. Also moderately proficient with a saber and buckler, staff, polearm and unarmed grappling. Pretty good shot with a bow and arrow, too.
ITEMS,
- Various odds and ends she might need.
- Workknife, for cutting things. Mostly meat for Dunny.
- A piece of string. Always. Similarly, Dunny‘s saddlebags almost always contain a piece of rope.
- Dunny is so big you need a saddle to ride him safely. It is entirely possible to ride him bareback, but if you‘re not Jaqueline he will throw you off.
ABILITIES,Dúnedain, Jaqueline‘s much-loved, much-feared gryphon. They‘re a lot alike. She calls him Dunny because he hates being called Dunny. Dunny is huge, bigger than any horse, and strong enough to tear through chainmail with ease. Also, he can fly, which is pretty cool. And he’s kind of an asshole.
Tribal Training: Though Jacqueline doesn’t display the more feral fighting style associated with it often anymore, she was trained by Gerudo from childhood. The harsh conditions of life in the desert and the peerless combat training grant her level one Gerudo racial abilities. She is able to wield two-handed weapons effortlessly in one hand and once every 2 posts, Jacqueline can zero in on an enemy, catching up to them in an instant.
RACIAL ABILITIES,
Superhuman Strength - Sometimes when the human's limits are removed, their gift is improved strength. While their blows naturally do more damage they also become able to lift heavier objects, or swing normally two handed weapons with one hand, among many other things requiring strength.
Level 1 - The human's strength is 2 times stronger than the average human being.
Superhuman Speed - For some humans, when their limits are removed, adrenaline kicks in. Their natural instincts are able to make themselves known and give the human a bit more of a boost, allowing them to move and act much faster than normal, possibly to the point of outdoing the usually agile Sheikah
Level 1 - The human's speed is 2 times quicker than the average human being.
Superhuman Endurance - Sometimes, there are humans who simply ignore a hit, even dire ones, and simply keep on going, whether it's not feeling any pain, or not even flinching. Some humans when feeling threatened, are able to simply march on through any kind of blow, like Achilles.
Level 1 - The human feels a dull pain when struck, but not much else.
Mighty Wind - Humans are incredibly tenacious. Some of them to the point where they absolutely refuse to stay down. This is known as the second wind really. Whenever a human is killed, they may simply ignore their death entirely and get back up. Their wounds are still there, but they are simply ignored and the human keeps going. The only thing that keeps this from kicking in is complete decapitation.
Level 1 - If the human is killed, they will come back, hanging on by a thread. This only works once a thread.
HISTORY,
Jacqueline never knew her parents. Hell, she’s not even a hundred percent sure she’s entirely human. If she’s a hybrid, she’s never been told. She was just a baby when a tribe of Gerudo raided the convoy her parents happened to be traveling in, killing them all. Except for one little infant, who was adopted by a woman in the tribe who had recently lost a baby daughter to stillbirth. They named the baby Anisa.
Anisa’s heritage was never hidden from her. She knew from the day she could hold a blade that if she did not perform, the tribe would reject her. So she performed. She was as good a fighter as any of the other children of the tribe, and her playful attitude, quick wit and glib tongue made her popular with the tribe. After her first raid, Anisa was officially initiated into the tribe, explaining where she got the tattoos on her face. They’re clan markings. She was thirteen when she joined Éroze Níliλi, the Bloody Eyes.
When Anisa was fifteen, she was in excellent standing with the tribe. Her skill was respected, her devotion to her people was unquestioned and she was much loved by them. And yet, though Anisa considered herself one of the Gerudo to the core, she was curious. She had killed humans and hylians alike, cutting down any who dared trespass into the desert, but she knew nothing about them. A desire had been growing in her heart that finally bloomed: Anisa wanted to know where she came from.
After making some arrangements, many tearful goodbyes and a solemn oath to return to the tribe no matter what happened, the tribe ambushed a merchant caravan and left it completely intact, passing on a passenger. With Anisa on board, the caravan traveled unmolested to the Gerudo Fortress itself and back, making out like the bandits they bought and sold to. Anisa managed to befriend a couple who were visiting family in the Fortress. They were fluent in Gerudo, unlike most of the others, and Anisa’s natural charm won them over easily. Just like that, she’d found herself another family, and a cover story.
They worked it out on the way back to Castle Town. Anisa would have to downplay her Gerudo heritage as much as possible. There would be no denying her past, but if people found out she was a raider she would be executed. They would pose as her aunt and uncle, and back up the story that Anisa had been kidnapped as a child and raised as one of the Gerudo. They would say she’d proved her worth by fighting in the constant tribal wars, earning her place in the clan. They would then say her aunt and uncle had tracked down the tribe that had kidnapped her and she’d asked to go to Castle Town with them to learn more about humans. Finally, she picked a human name: Jacqueline Durand.
It wasn’t long after they arrived in Castle Town that Anisa reached her first conclusion: Humans were boring. No fighting, no stealing, no knife games, no wrestling, no nothing. She’d learned a bit of Hylian, so she decided to take a chance and joined the many aspiring Hylian Knight innitiates. That was when things got interesting.
Immediately loathed for her close connection with the Gerudo, sixteen year-old Jacqueline excelled, which was the worst possible thing she could do. Her open worship of the Sand Goddess, broken and amateurish grasp of the Hylian language and her tendency to switch to talking Gerudo at the drop of a hat made her a target for bullying and discrimination ranging from simple shunning to violence and cruel pranks. To her tormentors’ delight, Jacqueline never complained to their superiors. She never retaliated unless it was to defend herself. The reason for her inaction was twofold: Gerudo pride and the knowledge that any hostility on her part would be used as an excuse to take further action against her. Despite all that, she came very close to simply killing as many of them as she could and then satisfying her all-consuming homesickness and leaving. The only thing she had to remind herself of home was her sword, which had been made specifically for her, and a constant stream of letters to and from her tribe.
Even so, there were two things which contributed most to Jacqueline’s survival in Castle Town. Her chosen mount, Dúnedain, whose training she poured herself into completely, soon becoming as comfortable with the gryphon as any accomplished horseman. Dúnedain, or Dunny, came to know all of Jacqueline’s secrets and innermost thoughts, including her massive crush on her second link to Castle Town: Nairore, the commander’s daughter. They were fairly close friends, with Jacq wishing intensely that they could be more, but it simply wasn’t meant to be. Also she didn’t really have the guts to ‘fess up.
And yet, somehow, her secret got out. The human who wanted to be a gerudo had the hots for the gerudo who wanted to be a hylian. They grew more distant after that.
Jacq released her frustration the only way she knew how: Training. Unarmored, lightly armored, armored in plate, wielding spears, knives, longswords, shields, bows, staves, Jacqueline’s already considerable experience and self-discipline meant she soon dominated any initiate who dared challenge her, and even some experienced knights.
Soon she’ll have herself a knighthood. And then? Who knows what could happen.
EXTRAS,
Speaks with a southern accent. Switches to Gerudo when emotional. I've got Quill's permission for the Nairore thing.
