It really hadn't been all that hard to sneak into the castle. He had experience in the matter, so he knew all the routes that the guards would patrol, where to hide and such. It was really quite simple, and he had to admit, that he missed it to an extent. Even with his baggage, he was completely invisible to the guards inside. Why, what was this baggage you ask? It was a giant barrel of wine that Nightmare was carrying on his shoulder. He had plans, things to discuss, and Zelda did say that she had wanted to meet him, so why not take her up on her offer. Granted, he wasn't crazy about it, as he really hadn't had much intention of returning her, not for a long while anyway.
He was glad that he had his ring though, otherwise he wouldn't have been able to carry the bigass barrel of wine. Though, he kept it hidden under his right glove for a myriad of reasons. Nightmare hadn't even dressed in his armor though, instead taking his casual clothes along. Fortunately, he didn't have much trouble sneaking through, making it to the door of the princess herself in just a few minutes. As he approached the door, he wondered if he should knock or not. No, he didn't want to make too much noise. Then again, Zelda was a Hylian, so she had enhanced hearing! At least, he thought she did. No wait, she did.
The Emperor placed the barrel down. Right, he had forgotten he came prepared. Really, when one was sneaking through the castle, sometimes they forgot some of the little details. Kneeling down, he pulled out a simple lockpick from under his left sleeve. As he placed it in the door, he gently twisted and played with the lock, stopping once he heard a satisfying click. Standing back up, he placed the lockpick back in his sleeve. Well, that had been a little easier than he thought it would be. The Champion, the Royal Guard, the Knight Captain, they could all go suck it. He had managed to sneak into the Princess's room.
Taking the barrel on his shoulder again, Nightmare slowly opened the door to the Princess's room, and quietly closed it behind him as he walked in. Making his way over to a chair, he silently placed the barrel down and watched the Princess, waiting for her to wake up and notice the intruder. After all, meeting or not, he couldn't help but cause just a little mischief.

An average end to an average day, Zelda had thought as she retired for the evening. It was refreshing, honestly; it had been a day of steady, productive work and only a few minor crises, and even with the threat of war looming on the horizon, she had managed to get her day-to-day work and then some finished at a decent hour. She had even left for bed a little earlier than she usually did, and had slept soundly. A good day, all in all.
One of the interesting things about Zelda's telepathy was that it worked even while she was unconscious. It wasn't as strong as when she was awake, but she could sense someone's presence, and it sent an alarm through her mind, which woke her instantly.
And imagine her surprise when she woke to see none other than Nightmare Darklight standing in her room.
Dirty blond hair slightly tousled from sleep, the princess pushed herself up into a sitting position, perfectly clear blue eyes just staring at the invading Emperor. She didn't have anything to say, not at first; she just maintained her perpetually calm demeanor as she folded her legs beneath her and clasped her hands together on her lap, not entirely sure whether to be amused or utterly shocked.
Eventually, though, she just sighed, a faint smile appearing on her lips as she shook her head in a combination of disapproval and amusement. This proved it, she decided; she had the feeling before, but now she knew. Alexander was Nightmare Darklight.
"You never change, Alexander," she said, laughing softly to herself. "I suppose I should thank you for accepting my invitation, even if this is a bit... unorthodox."

The Emperor didn't really move as she started to awaken. In fact, he gave a bit of a light smirk and that was it, he was expecting a reaction other than calmness. However, Nightmare went dead silent the moment she said his actual name. His blood ran cold. He really hadn't thought that she would correctly guess it was him. Honestly, the idea of him being the Emperor should have pushed the connection between the two completely out the window. After all, she knew Alexander as a human, not as a massive, firebreathing dragon that ruled the beasts that had given Hyrule problems for millenia. He gave a sigh of defeat. Yeah, he could lie about it, but there was no way she would've made that guess if she didn't have something to back it up.
"... I hadn't expected you to figure it out that fast." To be honest, he sometimes wasn't crazy about how she could see through even the tiniest holes in his plan. Looking back on it, it probably wasn't a good idea to sneak all the way into her room. That was a dead give away that only someone that knew the castle could pull that off. Not to mention that the fact he looked and sounded like Alexander, well, it was only natural that she would probably figure things out in the end. He had to admit, he wasn't really sure i it was the Triforce of Wisdom that allowed her to do that, or if it was just her own smarts.
But he figured that the jig was up, then he might as well pull down the act that he had tried to put up during their last meeting. Rising from his seat, he sauntered on over to the princess, still lying in bed. He reached down, grasping her delicate hands and laced them with his. He crawled onto her bed, and closed the distance between them as he placed his lips against hers in a tender kiss. He had to admit, there was something in this that proved rather nice. It wasn't like it used to be, it felt different, of that there was no doubt. But within that, there was something that in a way, reminded him of a life that he used to have.

To be perfectly honest, even she did not know where her own wits ended and the power of the Triforce began. They weren't the same; at least, she didn't think they were. It was like a rolling sea in her mind, in a way, with her own intelligence as the ocean and the Triforce of Wisdom as the sand. But, in a way, possessing the sacred fraction was part of what made Zelda, Zelda.
There were things she could do because she was Zelda, and there were things she couldn't do because she was Zelda. As she watched Alexander move to her bed and take hold of her hands, she felt the dread, that overwhelming despair that came from realizing what made up the things she couldn't do.
And yet, as the man's lips pressed against her own, so familiar and so foreign at the same time, she felt that despair lessen, if only a little.
She pulled away after a few moments, gently squeezing his larger, stronger hands, pressing her forehead to his. She had missed this -- oh, how she had missed this.
"Human or hydra, you know it means nothing to me," she whispered, eyes closing. "You're still Alex. I still--"
She hesitated, the words lodged in her throat. She still loved him, but was that something he wanted to hear? He had returned, yes, but only after she asked him to meet with her -- and he wasn't expecting her to recognize him quite so quickly. If she hadn't accidentally met him, she sincerely doubted that he would be there right then.
"I don't suppose you are staying," she murmured; it was more of a statement than a question, half looking for confirmation and half simply getting it out there, pushing the weight off her chest.
It had hurt when Alexander left the first time, but she managed. She could manage again.

Really, he perked an eyebrow at the fact that she was able to figure out that he was a hydra. That was something he didn't even reveal to his subjects. His one headed form was for that. Really, for all the world knew, he was just another dragon. Then again, she did have the Triforce of Wisdom... and telepathy, so she probably figured it out one way or another. That was one thing that he figured; he could ever really hide anything from Zelda. At least, not with it becoming a problem. Thankfully, he was just glad that he didn't really have that much to hide from the Princess of Hyrule, at least not for now anyway.
Her question however, brought a somewhat depressed expression to his features. He gave a soft sigh. "If you're asking if I'll be staying the night, then I'm afraid no." But he wouldn't let that mean that they wouldn't see each other after this, or that this night would be for nothing. "However, I see no reason why I can't visit from time to time." Really, what with it being known to her that Alexander was the Emperor, he felt no real reason to stay away anymore. So he figured that he could at least come and visit more often. It seemed she didn't object to much to it.
Though his hands pulled away from hers, and instead wrapped around her delicate frame and pulled her into an embrace. "It's good to see that you're doing ok, though." He murmured. It seemed that even with recent developments, she had managed to keep herself in check. Though he supposed he shouldn't have been surprised, she had been raised from birth for this after all. It surprised him just how much things had been picking up in the year since he had left.

Not quite what she meant, but she was glad to know that he wouldn't be... gone... anymore. Zelda could manage without him; she had, for the past year. But just because she could didn't mean that she wanted to. It was nice, having him by her side again, even if it wasn't quite in the same way that it had been before. She felt as if a weight had been lifted off her chest, and she could breathe a little easier; not comfortably, there was too much going on for that. But things did seem less complicated, more... manageable.
Zelda stiffened automatically when he pulled her into his arms, but she relaxed after a moment, closing her eyes and leaning on his shoulder. Physical contact wasn't exactly a common occurrence as of late, and what with the incidents that had happened -- right here, in the castle -- she had grown a little worn, a little weary. Even now, she worried for Nairore's health, and Zenethil... he was a stoic man, but seeing his daughter almost killed had to have taken its toll.
For a singular day, it had been calm. Uneventful. But the days preceding it had left her mentally exhausted.
She half-smiled into Alexander's chest, her quiet laugh humorless. "Considering the circumstances, yes. I am quite well."
Zelda pulled away, gently removing herself from Alex's embrace. She stood, went to her desk, and pulled out two letters from a drawer; one from Merik Dragmire, and one from Kotone Dragmire. She placed both on her bed, the former on top of the latter.
"Merik killed his own children," she said softly, her arms wrapping around her middle. "His children, unborn. Innocent. And he just killed them, without a thought."
The desire for vengeance was not one that Zelda was familiar with. She was calm, collected. Always. And yet...
"If I could apprehend him myself, I would. He is a murderer, and the leader of the pirates on top of that." No, vengeance was not the way, and even thinking of it made Zelda ashamed of herself, fearful of her own thoughts. But still, she voiced them.
"Zenethil and Ryan von Green are hunting Merik down, seeking to arrest him," she said, her voice still soft, but holding a tone that almost never escaped her lips; anger. And then --
"He should die for what he did."

As she pulled away, he immediately knew something was up. His suspicions were immediately justified as she pulled out two letters, one from Merik and one from Kotone. Merik, he might have known about, if it was the same one he himself had forged, but there was always the chance he sent one of his own. However, the one from Kotone caught his interest. Apparently things were about to bite Merik in the ass for once, for all that had happened, Merik would finally seem some consequences for his own stupidity. When you were moonlighting as a Pirate King running a criminal empire, you deserved what you were getting. Merik was just trying to escape his inevitable fate, like a lowly fugitive. He found it somewhat humorous.
As he opened the one from Kotone, Zelda informed him of the crimes that Merik had just recently committed, killing his unborn children. That one had to hit home with Zelda, moreso than most people. He could sympathize, the news made his stomach twist. What with the crimes he had recently been proven of the Pirate King, he was too dangerous to be left alive. He had become a rabid dog, and like one, it was time to put him down. His eyes went over the words that Kotone had written. He could tell she put her heart into it; it wasn't a forgery, nor was it a lie. In a way, she would be Merik's own undoing.
He placed the letter to his side. "I see where this is going. I understand." Nightmare solemnly nodded. She didn't need to say anything more, they were that close, he knew what she was asking for. "Alright, I'll assassinate him." And thanks to Kotone, he knew where Merik was at this point. Again, she had been his undoing. "There are three places he would go. He'd never turn to me as he'd sooner kill himself. So the only places he'd be willing to go are the Pirate Bay, the Gerudo Fortress, and Titania." What he meant was, that the Gerudo King was with Titania, he didn't need no fancy report for that.
"Considering you got a letter from Kotone, especially one as clearly emotional as this, I'd guess Merik hasn't gone to the first two. Not to mention that she apparently received news of it, rather than just saying Merik told her. The fact she claims there are reports and that he was supposed to come back means she hasn't had contact with him. That just leaves him with Titania." He scrutinized even the smallest of details within the letter. Wording could make or break an entire letter from time to time, he knew that, it was why the forging had apparently been a success, he had successfully worded it.
He noticed how she hugged herself, this was really getting to her. He placed a hand on her shoulder, trying to comfort her. He leaned in and gave the princess a quick peck, if nothing else, it could make her feel a little better, right? "Don't worry, I'll take care of it." He assured her gently squeezing her shoulder. "I'll take things a step further too. Titania's been riding the fence for too long, I'll see if I can't force her true loyalties. Hopefully, they're to you." He told her. For Zelda, he really had no problem going above and beyond to make sure everything worked out.
Scooting himself off her bed, he stood at the side, holding out an inviting hand. It probably looked somewhat odd, what with him in his formal wear, and her in her sleeping wear. "Now then, the reason I came here~" He spoke in a playful tone. He really didn't mind showing his true colors around her at this point, as she knew who he was, so for a night, he could let his guard down. Would you like to join me for a drink, my darling queen?" He snickered at the title. He figured they could sneak out to the gardens or something, just have a good time, right?
