FINN RIDER
don't panic
RACE,Bear Minish / Sheikah Hybrid. Minish dominant.
GENDER,Male
BATTLE ROLE,Tank
SEXUALITY,Heterosexual
AGE,Twenty-four
ALLIANCE,Lawful Good! ... most of the time.
PERSONALITY,On first glance, Finn appears to be a sullen, moody, perpetually stressed-out kind of guy; and to an extent, he is. You're allowed to be if you have post-traumatic stress disorder, which Finn most certainly does.
Most of the time, he's just Finn; he doesn't really speak unless spoken to, but if you get him to open up and be comfortable, he's a pretty nice guy. He's awkward around women, but only really, really beautiful women. He's not the brightest crayon in the box, but he makes do with what he has. He's prone to attempting heroic feats, even if he fails most of the time; and despite his failures, he has a subtle kind of cheer and confidence surrounding him.
But like that quiet aura, he also has an axe forever swinging just an inch above his neck. At any moment, something or someone will just make him angry beyond belief, and it's like he's an entirely different person.
When flipped-out, he's not really Finn anymore. He's angry, he's sadistic, and he's violent to the point where what he does would sicken Freddy Krueger. He'll lash out at anyone surrounding him, and whether it's with knife or hands, it hardly matters; the average person is just as dead.
The worst part, though, is that he hardly ever remembers what he does when he flips. He's not even fully aware that his other personality exists; what he does remember, he passes off as some kind of horrible dream. Anything could trigger his rage, and nothing but time can stop it.
He has perpetual stress lines, but that's mostly because of his brooding; it's not a habitual action for him, but he does do it at times. The stress lines also stem from Flipped-Out Finn; while he may not know about it consciously, his subconscious is always trying to steer him away from situations that could step on one of his many, ever-changing triggers.
APPEARANCE,Finn's an attractive enough guy, if you can get past all the green. His hair's green and chopped short and messy, and his eyes are an odd maroon color. Given his Sheikah heritage, his eye color isn't all that strange, but the color combination tends to throw people off. He's a big guy, too; he stands at about 6'5" and is packed full of lean, hard muscle. Also not surprising, considering that he's a bear. In his human form, he has adorable little rounded bear ears (also green, in case you were wondering), but they're generally hidden by his hair. He also has a green nub of a bear tail.
Finn tends to dress in camouflage and dark olive drab left over from his stint in the military. Underneath the typical uniform he wears a skintight back shirt, and he also is never seen without his dog tags, leather gloves, and cover. When he does change out of the actual uniform (he has many, many sets, so this hardly ever occurs), he'll usually opt for a camouflage jacket, maroon shirt, and loose black pants. He always wears the same shin-covering steel-toed boots.
When Finn shifts, he changes into an 8'2" green bear. Yes, green. He's big and muscular and quite adorable, if he's not aiming to bite your head off.
WEAPONS,Survival Knife. A fixed-blade survival knife that Finn always carries around. It has blood wells for easy stabbing, and partially serrated edges for whatever he needs to chop up. Single-edged. He keeps it in a leather sheath on his hip.
Steel-Toed Boots. Boots, obviously. Made specially for kicking your ass.
ITEMS,MS: Dog Tags. Standard military-issue dog tags, with his basic information stamped into them (i.e. name, DOB, gender, race, regiment). They make him about twice as strong as the average person. Passive.
He's a smoker, so he also carries around a pack of cigarettes and a lighter.
ABILITIES,Bear Power Go! Because he's a bear, Finn's built like a brick wall. And, like a brick wall, it takes a helluva lot to knock him down. Basically, all physical damage dealt to him is halved. Magical attacks do normal damage, and physical attacks with magical augments do normal damage. Passive.
RACIAL ABILITIES,
Animal Form, Level One: Animal form can be accessed.
Size Change, Level Two: The Minish can shrink down to only 1/4 the size of a human.
Invisiblity, Level One: The Minish can turn invisible for 1 turn with a cooldown of 8 turns.
HISTORY,
Finn was an awkward child.
He was the kind of kid who never did anything, but got blamed for everything; he had a reputation as a huge tough guy who would beat down anyone who even looked at him the wrong way, but in truth, he was just a guy. He wasn't overly smart, and while he was exceptionally strong because of his bear and Sheikah blood, he was a gentle soul. Finn didn't make things happen; things happened to him, and while it made him bewildered half the time, he wasn't unhappy.
He progressed through his childhood riding on the reputation he had done nothing to earn, and for a while, everything was good. Lovely, even. But then he hit his teens, and people began mutter; oh, he's a wild child; oh, he's out of control.
And he hadn't done a thing.
His parents never saw anything -- there was nothing to see! -- but they heard the rumors, and they believed them. So off to military school Finn went.
His natural strength served him well, and the bear actually excelled at everything that didn't involve critical thinking. He was the type who would break down a brick wall rather than climb over it, and that kind of brute-force thinking had its uses.
Namely, bodyguarding.
Well, to say that Finn was a bodyguard would be stretching it a bit; he didn't so much defend his charge as he created a semblance of defending his charge. He was big, he was tough, and he looked mean; for most people, that would be enough to thwart any assassination attempts. His job was easy, and he was happy.
So he got out of military school at age eighteen, and he was a bodyguard for about two years. Everything was fine and dandy, until it wasn't.
Some of that small percentage of people who weren't afraid of Finn's presence decided to attack his charge while they were traveling. There was an entire defensive group in a caravan of sorts, but the horses went wild and the carriages all burned to ash when the looters attacked.
His comrades -- his friends -- all burned to ash.
Finn survived through a combination of sheer luck and the fear that drove him to hide beneath a pile of charred corpses for two days while the looters did their business. They never found him, and when they left, he was safe, but he was never quite the same.
This is when he began flipping out.
He didn't have the heart to keep working as he did, so he kind of retired, in a way. He doesn't work now, really; he just wanders, and does a few odd heavy-lifting jobs when he really needs the money.
EXTRAS,
-- Hates, hates excessive amounts of fire. Candles and torches and the like are fine, though.
-- He smokes because it calms his nerves. Sometimes.
