PERSONALITY,Daryu is a prime example of the brotherly nature of the Goron people. She accepts anyone who approaches her with open arms and offers them companionship and a drink. Generally a jolly person, she's only made even more so by the fact that she's perpetually drunk. The fact that she's a Goron, even if most of her time is spent as a Hylian, gives her a high tolerance since Gorons don't even really require liquid sustenance or process alcohol naturally. She will buy a drink for anyone she meets, so long as she's not broke, but then she just tries to win free booze by arm wrestling or something so she can treat her companions to a drink.
Her eternally drunk state also makes her quick to anger, but she's one of those people that has very short lived tempers. If someone annoys her enough she'll give them a piece of her mind, but it won't take her long to revert back to her friendly self. She's not a thinker, so she doesn't really say complex thoughts and metaphors, but she gets her point across in a way anybody can understand. She's not a big fan of people who groan and complain about some condition they have if they've made no true efforts to overcome them, and will often slap them around a bit to get the message through.
The reason for that is that Daryu has long since gotten over her grudge with the witch. Her conversion into a fake hylian has taught her the joys of alcohol and the thrill of a challenge, something she lacked back when she had permanent access to her full strength. She will often do things she knows are inherently outside of her capabilities, trying to improve herself anyway and either gain more control over the curse, or just improve her own physical ability. She doesn't complain when the curse keeps her back; she just keeps trying while blaming her own inability. It's not really a matter of having a limiter to her, but a matter of whether or not she can use her strength to push passed that limit.
On the note of her strength, while Daryu is the prime of Goron brotherhood, she is far from humble. She's always been more competitive than the other Gorons, and now that she's cursed, she's even more competitive just to prove she's not handicapped with it. She will often challenge people in various ways, be it drinking contests, arm wrestling, or anything she can come up with at the time. She will challenge virtually anyone, regardless of what their talents may be. Those with a greater, but different talent than her own are an interesting opponent; those with higher strength than her are a fitting opponent; those without any advantage over her will learn from the experience and tend to be more creative.
She handles winning and losing the same, and always tries her best at anything she does. Unless she consciously knows she's better and chooses to hold back for the sake of the other person, she will go all out at any challenge or opponent in front of her. Regardless of whether she wins or loses though, she laughs it off and, if the opponent is still there, offers them a drink. In the end, she's believed that everyone should be just as friendly towards each other as they were in the beginning, as a challenge or a fight is not a 'make or break' point for a friendship, but just something to bring them closer. It points out flaws that need to be worked on for both sides, and shows that they can still improve. There's no reason for hate in that, she believes.
APPEARANCE,
Daryu doesn't look like a Goron on a daily basis. Thanks to the curse, on a daily basis, she isn't a Goron, but a Hylian. She stands at six foot two, putting her quite a bit above most, and has a larger build than average. She's a bulky Hylian, her muscles clearly visible and being an indicator of her higher than average physical strength. She has orange hair that reaches below her waist and a red horn sticking out of her forehead, about six inches long. She is typically seen wearing a white t-shirt with red on the collar and sleeves and a blue pleated skirt with red stripes reaching down to the hem, which is cut in a triangular pattern along the bottom, which is also lined in red. She wears a pair of wooden sandals that elevate her slightly due to two thin wooden blocks attached to the bottoms of each one. Around her ankles and her wrists are metal shackles, with small lengths of chain dangling from each.
As the curse lessens on her, her body shifts. At 75%, her skin gains a dark tint to it, becoming tan, and her muscles increase in size to a bulging point. She grows somewhat taller, reaching seven foot five, and her overall figure is larger and more imposing than normal. At 50%, aside from the rocks beginning to grow out of her back now, her figure grows once again. She reaches nine feet tall, and her muscle mass has increased further. In addition, her skin tone becomes a mix of red and orange, and her horn shifts from a bright red to a toned down clay color. At 25%, she turns ...well, frightening. She towers over almost everyone now, standing at thirteen feet, and her body size is a very obvious indicator of her strength. Her skin and horn match in color, being a red clay color. At 10%, her body becomes that of a Goron, standing at sixteen foot six, and having the typical body shape of a Goron. Her legs are not disproportionately small like most Goron, but they bend to add extra support to her body mass. She is able to curl up at this point like a Goron, but naturally, she's bigger than most.
WEAPONS,She has no weapons beyond her arms and legs. The horn counts under terrible circumstances, or when someone just really needs an impalement.
ITEMS,She keeps a small assortment of things on her:
- Gourd & Dish: Secured to her waist by a rope, at all times, is a gourd of alcohol and an old-fashioned drinking dish. It's a plate-shape, but deeper, making it more of a mix between a plate and a bowl, which she often uses to drink the booze she has on her. It's roughly the size of her hand, when held open, so the base fits in her palm. She's almost always got a full gourd of booze on her.
- Leg and wrist shackles: She doesn't wear these as a fashion statement. They're a physical byproduct of the curse, so she can't remove them. They're solid steel ankle and wrist shackles, like one would put on a prisoner, with about four chain links extending out from each. They show no signs of being broken off of a different chain. They're sturdy and adjust to fit her body, so she's always got them on. They do make for convenient guards for someone that doesn't wear armor~
ABILITIES,
- Curse "Chains of the Feeble" [Level 1]: A curse placed on Daryu by a witch, it suppresses her Goron traits and forces her into the form of a hylian for day to day life. The curse is a mockery of her reliance on strength and her pride as a Goron, but it is not meant to kill her. The witch desired for Daryu to be forced to live with her condition, and so when it is necessary for survival, the curse will intentionally weaken to allow her access to her strength, but it will never go away permanently. When certain conditions are met, the curse weakens, though Daryu can try to consciously fight the curse. The curse progresses as follows:
- 100%: All Goron traits supressed. Treated as a Hylian with no racials for all intents and purposes. Strength is at 1.5x.
- 75%: Base Movement reduced to .75x the norm. Density at one fourth of the norm for a Goron. Skin is thicker. Muscle mass increased, Strength is at 2x. Takes 2 rounds of unbroken focus to consciously activate this level. Can be triggered by taking a moderate amount of damage in a single hit.
- 50%: Base movement reduced to .5x the norm. Density at one half the norm for a Goron. Skin is thicker, small layer of rocks form on back. Muscle mass increased, Strength is at 4x. Takes 4 rounds of unbroken focus to consciously activate this level. Can be triggered by taking a heavy amount of damage in a single hit, or taking overall damage equal to being half dead.
- 25%: Base movement reduced to .25x the norm. Density at three fourths the norm for a Goron. Skin is thicker, rocks on back increase in thickness and size. No longer has to breathe. Muscle mass increased, Strength is at 6x. Takes 6 rounds of unbroken focus to consciously activate this level. Can be triggered by taking a massive amount of damage in a single hit, or taking overall damage equal to being at 1/4th health.
- 10%: Base movement reduced to that of a normal Goron. Density at norm for a Goron. Now possesses the complete physical body and build of a Goron. Muscle mass increased, Strength is at 8x. Takes 8 rounds of unbroken focus to consciously activate this level. Can be triggered by taking a near fatal amount of damage in a single hit, or taking overall damage equal to near death.
Upon any level of the seal being reached, upon the end of the encounter, it will revert back to 100%. However, if by the next encounter Daryu is still in the same level of damage that she was at prior, she can skip to the stage of the curse according to her level of damage.- Feat of Strength "Punch out the Fire" [Level 1]: Simply put, Daryu is highly adept at wielding her strength. She has a fine-tuned control over her body and the strength it has, and can utilize it to various ends. What this basically translates into, is that if it makes sense, Daryu can utilize her strength to accomplish it. Run as fast as the Sheikah? Put power in her steps to cover more distance in each stride. Resist the rush of a rolling Goron? Have a powerful, firm stance to avoid being pushed. Being shot with magic? Punch the spell really, really hard to disrupt it and avoid the brunt of the damage.
This is not a means of being immune to damage or anything like that. If she uses her strength to avoid the full assault of a fireball by breaking it with a punch, she still gets her fist burned by the spell, but manages to avert the full hit. Similarly, if she uses it to avoid being pushed by a powerful force effect, she still gets hit with the kinetic force of it, but resists the movement. This ability is directly reliant on Daryu's strength, and so by extension, it is reliant on the level of the seal. For the purposes of things such as punching out fire or pushing against a high power stream of water, x2 is 20%, x4 is 40%, x6 is 60%, and x8 is 80% resistance.
RACIAL ABILITIES,
Super Strength - Gorons are notorious for hitting exceptionally hard. While some are just as strong as an average human, others are able to utterly clobber people. As it is part of their nature, should they possess it, it is a passive ability.
The goron's strength is 8 times stronger than the average human being
HISTORY,
A while back, a young female Goron came into existence. This is an odd enough start to the tale of Daryu, since nobody ever hears about the female Gorons. They're there, but they're like the female dwarves; they blend in most of the time so you can never tell them apart. Anyway, Daryu was a female born Goron from some time ago, who grew and matured like any other. She happened to grow larger than average for a Goron, something just short of Medigoron's size, and had a lot of physical power in her body. She often won at the contests of strength between young Goron and prided herself on it, being the 'queen' of their generation of Gorons.
The pride from this got to her head and stuck with her as she matured. At her full size, she was a pretty big Goron, and was just as good a wrestler as other Gorons. Her size and power, however, allowed her to win all of her matches, so she went undefeated for a long time. After about thirty years of her life, she got tired of this, and began traveling Hyrule to find others to test herself against. Needless to say, such a huge Goron traveling was far from subtle. Nobody tried to rob her, partly because she had nothing, but partly because any kind of bandit was scared of such a huge being walking around.
Daryu wrestled many of the larger, more powerful beasts of Hyrule, traveling to the deepest seas and the depths of the forest, but none really provided a challenge for her. Anything that matched her in sheer power was beaten by technique, something she had developed to go hand in hand with her strength. She had trained herself to be strong and able to control it, guiding her power in the best way to beat her enemies. Eventually, she had come across a cabin in the depths of Faron Woods. She encountered a witch there, an old Hylian magic user, who had moved out there to get some peace. Daryu felt she could even beat a spell caster, and challenged her.
Daryu was able to fend off the offensive magics like fireballs and whatnot, and she began gloating about the superiority of the Goron people over Hylians. She went on about how magic didn't matter if simple inherent strength could knock it away, and eventually, the woman snapped. She had heard enough of Daryu's bragging, and so she used a powerful curse she had been intentionally avoiding using but couldn't any more. Shackles formed on Daryu's limbs, and her form changed into that of a bigger than average hylian woman. Her strength was much lower, and there was virtually no trace of her Goron heritage save the horn sticking out of her head. The witch got the last laugh, both literally and metaphorically, before teleporting Daryu away.
She appeared in Hyrule Castle Town, and it took a lot for her to accept and come to terms with her condition. She found her way into a bar and when she demanded the man to just give her something to drink, she got a mug full of cheap ale. It tasted bad, but Daryu enjoyed the buzz it gave her. It made her feel....better, and so she got more. She drank and drank and drank, and eventually passed out at the bar. She awoke the next morning on the streets, but she didn't care. She felt that, for once, the Hylians did have something over Gorons; alcohol. With this knowledge, she began to try making the most of her situation.
Thirty years later, and thankfully because of both the curse and a Goron's natural longevity, she hasn't really changed much physically from how she was back then. Mentally though, she was a completely different woman. She enjoyed her Hylian condition, learning the ways of the curse she had placed on her and adapting to it. She made it a goal of hers to enjoy life to the fullest, no matter what obstacles or hiccups life put in her way, and so far she was making good on that. Booze, good company, and challenges of all sorts made up her daily routine, and she liked it.
So that's how she lives to this day.
