Jack was on the run.
Arrows with torched aflame chased after the escaping hybrid flying through the air trying to take him down. Caught in the middle of Hyrule Fields a group of monsters thought it would be easy to take out the blond running away. The flame tipped arrows met no target before plunging into the ground missing him completely. It would appear that life wasn't going to play easy with him. Not that he minded really - in fact, he actually quite enjoyed the chase. It was always nice to know he was wanted. Alas, if he did say so himself, he had every right, and room to be picky on who exactly was chasing him.
If he had his way he would rather have women chasing after him than monsters. You know how the old saying goes, how beggars couldn't be choosers, so he only picked up the pace. His hazel eyes went small pausing in his tracks as he wanted an arrow whiz on by barely taking out his nose by a few inches. He nearly face planted catching himself on his toes before making the blunder.
These creatures, bulblins, were no different than common hecklers picking off anybody who came across them on the road and taking what goods they had on them. Just was his luck to cross their paths trying to get back to Hyrule Castle Town. Jack cursed as he came to a complete halt in the middle of his tracks cornered by the edge of a cliff. He turned to face the creatures that had him surrounded. He really wasn't feeling up to dealing with these cowardly vermin.
Decisions, decisions...

"You look like you could use a hand, friend," said a voice above Jack and a split second thereafter a red-headed, one-eyed male poked his head down into Jack's view. "Date gone wrong?" Kiir said with a toothy grin, looking back up at the group of Bulbins that had the other man cornered there in the cliff. Kiir himself was standing on the wall, his center of gravity realigned so that the cliff face was now his down, the ground beneath him. His hands were clasped behind his back and he was somewhat squat so that he was more level with Jack.
"Fight or flight?" Kiir asked from his peculiar perch, one of his hands slipping from behind his back to rest on the dagger sheathed at his side. "Your call." A group of bulbins might be a bit hard for one man alone, but two men had a chance, particularly since Kiir had a plan for either case. Of course there was the other option of flight, as Kiir was already demonstrating that a sheer cliff face was no obstacle for him. Little did Jack know how literally Kiir meant flight . . .
Of course talking to someone who was standing on the wall might be a bit disorienting, so with a leap Kiir readjusted his center to the ground and landed beside Jack. His back pressed where his feet just stood and he leaned oh so casually against the stone while waiting for Jack to make his decision. Fight or flight, one of the most primal questions there was. And a true test of a man's character, as the choice itself was affected by many factors that said oh so much.

“Wha…” he stopped himself from finishing. Where in the goddesses’ name was that voice coming from? Hazel eyes peered up, and were taken by surprise by the fact that another man was at present – and standing precisely on the wall of the cliff. An eyebrow arched as he picked up the joke quickly giving a good chuckle appreciating the man’s humor. He found a bit difficult to take him seriously when he was standing above his head on top of the wall. “Close enough. Caught a case of the common wrong place, wrong time.” He didn’t have time to think up some clever little comment to so when all else failed, one could simply state the truth, and in his case… well, it really was a case of wrong place, wrong time.
Eye-patch redhead gave the blond two options to work with. Fight off the pursuers or… flight? What in Din’s fiery name did he mean by that? He didn’t have time to ask him unfortunate as the bulblins began creeping in on him ready to take on both men at present thinking that just because they had numbers it would still be an easy feat. How troublesome.
“Ok, let’s go with the latter,” he answered, “but could you explain what this option is exactly?” More or less, he was actually interested on what he got himself into, but in the long run, he found it beneficial to get out of a hairy situation first before getting into the next matter at hand. One thing at a time, and Jack had to be patient with his friendly assistant.
He could only wish that the monsters could say the same before weapons were being drawn and flaming arrows were notched back from the bows. Yeah, they were getting a little too close for comfort now.

Kiir watched the Bulbins draw their weapons and smirked, batting his hand dismissively at them. "Wait your turn, guys, we're chatting over here," he said simply. It seemed to work for all of a second, too, as they looked at each other with mild confusion. One was ahead of his class, however, and figured out that they didn't have to listen to Kiir like that, and shrieked back. This incited a response clear across the board as the other Bulbins followed.
"Well it seems like we're out of time here," Kiir chirped with a grin. "This'll feel weird, but roll with it," he said simply, then reached out and put his hand on Jack's shoulder. Once he made contact he extended his field outward to Jack and then switched their center of gravity from the ground as it were to the wall immediately behind them. Kiir was expecting it, so he twisted as the two of them fell sideways against the cliff, landing on his feet.
"Follow my lead," Kiir murmured and then began to run straight up the cliff wall as the Bulbins started to move in around them, pausing just momentarily to wonder what was going on. With Kiir's ascension up the wall they figured it out eventually and knew their prey was about to escape, so their rush began to quicken.

Perhaps his luck was changing or at least this was the blond being optimistic. Jack liked eye-patch dude. He kept a calm, and cool attitude even in the heat of a hot pursuit. The enemies in front of them got angry at the redhead dismissing them as if they weren't a big deal. It went without saying that their war cry annoyed the ever loving crap out of the hybrid's eardrums. Yeah, it was time to split this gig. The public could wait for autographs later, he was off to better places, and one that didn't involve getting shot at with flaming arrows.
"Eh?" he didn't have a chance to question what was going on. Soon enough there was a shift in gravity, and the ground no longer was pressed against his feet. He felt himself falling, however his body was parallel to the ground, and his depth perception took a one-eighty spin. While Jack wasn't expecting he, he tried looking sharp, and twist his body around so that his arms, and legs planted nicely against the surface of the wall. His hazel eyes widened a bit realizing that just exactly what had happened. "Handy power," he complimented, getting back up on his feet.
My role is being taken from me, he noted mentally. Unfortuantely, there was no time to gripe over the bruised ego, living came first so that he could redeem that ego. Nothing could be accomplished when you dead, right? He staggered a bit behind trying to adjust to the new view, and followed quickly behind eye-patch. While the monsters below them who carried blunt weapons, and swords couldn't do anything, it didn't stop the archers from trying to take shots at them once more. Arrows flew up vertically in an attempt to take stabs at the running men. "Arrows are 'in' this year, I see," he mused.

To Jack's credit he was able to think fast and react fairly to the new feeling. It often took people several minutes before they adjusted to the sudden change. It was hard to lose your concept of what was down even when your body was telling you, confidently, that down was sideways. Of course Kiir had only ever interacted this with other Oocca, who rely very heavily on being able to tell down through cues other than their body, since flying requires some tricky positions and maneuvers sometimes. At least as far as Kiir could observe.
His wings had never developed properly.
Either way his feet had and he was running up the side of the cliff just ahead of Jack. He knew he'd chosen this man for a reason, and Jack certainly wasn't proving him wrong. Being able to react quickly and think on his feet was what made him stand out from the gratuitous others who were wandering Hyrule Field arbitrarily that day. Or maybe Jack had just chosen the right direction to run in and Kiir desperately needed help running his ship. Either way it worked to both of their advantages.
Then the arrows flew. Kiir turned to look back at the Bulbins, as that wasn't down but back now, and nearly tripped in what would've been a ledge otherwise. "Not my kind of fashion. We'll be fine once we're at the top," he said as he recovered gracefully from his trip. Fortunately Bulbins had terrible aim, so the arrows weren't exactly going anywhere near home. "I'm Kiir, by the way!"

Being limited to the ground wasn't necessarily a bad thing. If anything, it helped someone like the blond to stay on his feet as much as possible, always taking in everything around him before accommodating an action into motion. If you had to fall at least do it with some style. Jack didn't know entirely what would happen to him, but the second he noticed the wall coming straight for him, he couldn't just body slam right into it. He could have sworn he earned a few brownie points by showing his ability of what free running capabilities he had on him at the moment.
While in one hand he was quite relieved to be given a helping hand out of that mess, Jack was actually quite curious as to what were the odds of him meeting this quirky eye-patched mate. Fates were smiling quite eerily upon the blond, and there was a reason behind it. He usually had a good feel for what would come his way, but then again he was mortal, and could be wrong. For now, it was just a matter of getting to the reason behind this encounter, and getting to know his new ally better. Step by step, he paced himself reaching higher, and higher with the new center of gravity not daring to look back at the defeated group of monsters unhappy that their preys got away.
"Jack," he returned the favor, "You have my thanks, mate." He couldn't help but grin at the near fall occurrence Kiir pulled before making a acute recovery. He wasn't bad himself when it came to working on his feet. His power was certainly a nifty little trick as well. As far as he was concerned manipulating gravity itself as an element was quite a feat. Normally most creatures were submissive to the natural pull of the earth's gravity, but it would seem that he had a flawless talent for using it to his own devices. He couldn't help but wonder what someone like him want with the blond. Only one way to really find out.
"I don't suppose this impromptu rescue mission comes with any ulterior motives, does it?" he inquired with a grin.

Kiir recovered from his stumble easily enough and continued up the cliff. It was a high one, but they were near the top. "We'll discuss that in a moment, Jack, just don't hesitate!" With a few extra quick bounds Kiir jumped over the lip of the cliff, which would be a cliff of its own as the rest of the world lay as the cliff face, considering their direction. Except instead of falling down into oblivion Kiir was readjusted, as his center of gravity was the cliff itself. As he jumped it was merely like one jumped over a small mound and he was brought to the ground.
The same thing would inevitably happen to Jack when he jumped.
Once Jack was landed, whether he hesitated and waited to see how Kiir fared or jumped with him, it was just a matter of placing his hand on his shoulder and switching the blonde man's center back to the default position, as it were. With a grin he withdrew his hand, now beyond the lip of the cliff face and out of arrow range, and cross his arms while leaning against a small tree that dared to grow near so much rock. That single emerald eye gleamed with mischief.
"We're on top of a small mountain here. I've already scoped it out. There's only one path up or down. No doubt the Bulbins will figure this out quickly as well. I got you out once, and I can do it again. But first we're going to talk," Kiir said, venturing a peak down at the Bulbins as they wondered what just happened and tried to regroup. "So will you hear me out or will I leave you to find your own way out of this?"

Jack gave Kiir a quick nod. Was it a wise choice to be placing his trust in this man so quickly? No, it was a mutual beneficiary relationship at the moment, trying to make it alive for the sake of living another day. After all, there was no point in trying to take on a feeble group of creatures, and wasting not only your valuable time, and energy removing them from existence. The monsters were confused as to what exactly just happened, and regrouped their forces finding it futile to try going after the men. He followed behind taking the leap before him, and repeated the same steps as before. Only this time he was well-prepared for this time around.
When his center of gravity was readjusted back to normal, he paused for a moment to straighten his vision, finding that experience just as Kiir explained it. Weird. Now that they were on top of the cliff, Jack had at least a little bit of time to think over what exactly just happened in the past few minutes. Right, so this Oocca male named Kiir came down on him, walking on the wall of the cliff offering him assistance, and by magic, he was walking against the wall as well, and they made their grand escape. However it was only just a temporary retreat as it would seem that wouldn't be the last they would see of the bulbins.
Jack crossed his arms over his chest with interested hazel eyes. Kiir gave him the option to split or hear him out on what he had to say. Of course, he was going to hear the guy out, he at least owed him that much for getting him out of the corner. Besides, the hybrid male was actually rather curious of what opportunities lie in store if he stuck around with this man. He looked like he held quite a bit of potential so perhaps something could be worked out between the two of them.
"I'm listening," he replied, "I owe it to you that much at least."

Kiir grinned as Jack gave him his attention. Of course he did. Kiir was a master in the art of wordcraft and diplomacy. He would get the attention he sought no matter what. Jack just decided to take the reasonable and easy route. With the man's attention in hand Kiir walked forward to another edge where the cliff rounded. Once there he pointed downward, into a valley. In particular he pointed a thicket of trees and the large earth-colored mass they surrounded.
"Jack, I'm a man who supports complete, unharnessed freedom in this world of ours. And in considering that angle I can only wonder why folk such as you and I are limited to the ground or sea, stuck to this planet as we are. As you've already witnessed I'm not a huge fan of following rules such as gravity and I'm less so a fan of the rules forced on me by those so called authority, who don't even know me. I can sense you're a very similar man. Men who wish to live well beyond their means, both financially and physically. What I have to offer you is a chance of a lifetime."
He turned away from the cliff and grinned widely at the man. "What I offer you is the chance to crew Hyrule's first, and currently only, though I doubt that'll last long, airship," he said with all the simplicity of the world itself. There was no need to dance around it. He turned back and pointed to that same earth-colored mound. "That formation down there? That's the Sparrow, my pride and joy. Hidden away from the world right now, but I fully intend to leave here and go spread her wings. What I'm looking to offer you is a chance to be on board when she takes flight once more."
His foot hung out over the edge of the cliff, though it was obvious the fall wasn't a threat to him considering how they had just gotten up there. "Of course you will be paid, as any crewman should, based on the ship's own income and whatnot, but that's all technicalities I'm sure you simply don't care about. What you care about is the chance to take to the air, to embrace this unique and one of a kind offer to fly the skies of Hyrule, to rule them as any Oocca could. Am I right?"

Now there was nothing wrong with taking the easy route, conveniently being the most reasonable one in his circumstance as well; rather he was climbing a ladder he knew he wanted to go up without coming up short later on. He could easily have the tongue of politician, but it still wouldn't be enough to convince Jack otherwise. Kiir was clever in the sense that he put his actions up first, and showed the hybrid blond just a taste of what he was capable of, and reeled him in tactfully to get him to listen in to what he had in mind. Jack took a few steps closer over to the edge of the cliff to take a good look at what it was he was pointing towards.
"An offer once in a lifetime, huh?" he mused. Listening to what he was explaining, it would appear that he was thinking of something along the lines of business, and in this case, a partnership of sorts. Like a good practitioner of word-craft, he hit the main keys of establishing important factors, and laced them together trying to garner his complete and total interest. Was it working? For the most part, yes, one could notice the impression it left within his lit up hazel eyes. He would love to feel his feet take off from the earth to take hold of the skies just like the winged folk do with they spread their wings.
Wait, did he just say an airship? Now Kiir would know without a doubt he had Jack's attention. Was it even possible to believe that such a thing existed? The redhead pointed over to the large land formation over by the valley, apparently that wasn't natural, and it was his ship just acting as a cover. He wasn't serious, was he? The airship captain was recruiting the Leading Man hybrid. There was no way in hell could he refuse an offer like that, however, he did pause to ponder for a moment of the possibilities, and perhaps mishaps that may occur. Nothing was perfect after all...
"You're quite the sharp businessman, Kiir," he noted, "I don't suppose I'm the first on your recruitment list, am I?"

Kiir could only grin as he saw his words wrap the man in their web. Of course he knew they would. Kiir had grown up in the Ooccan courts, he knew the finer points of a well-placed word, the necessity for action to demonstrate authority and all of those courtly matters. At the time none of them seemed very important, but now that he was away from the City he realized just how practical such practices were. Naturally he wasn't going to let the Leading Man new recruit know this particular aspect of his background.
"A sharp tongue can slice smoother than a sharp blade given the wordsmith wields it with wit as a swordsman does training," Kiir commented idly on Jack's praise. He wasn't one to linger on himself, however, as that might get dangerous considering his deep, dark, noble secret. "I have my eye on several recruits. A ship can't fly without a proper crew, after all. You're the first I've approached with this offer, of course, and you'll be the third aboard the ship should you indeed take me up on my offer."
Kiir turned his back to the cliff, though he stood on the very edge. "And I think you'll like the crew I'm assembling, Jack, if you're the type of man I know you are," he said with a grin. He extended his hand. "We can talk details later. Trust me when I say the pay will be nice and your needs looked after. Our time is running short, as those bulbins will have you in another corner soon. You have three options. Slip away right now before they can get here, wait and see if you can take them out, or take my hand and accept my offer and we walk right back down that cliff and to the Sparrow."

And it only left Jack to image what kind of background did he come from naturally. The blond himself was quick to pick on such skills as well being taught a handful of things during his service in the military. It provided him an open eye on when it came to not only delivering full effort efficiently in obtaining the objective in mind, but also working with others despite any drawbacks. His charisma did not go unappreciated as he mused over what was the male like before he decided to be captain of such boastful invention. While on the surface, he was but a simple Ooccan male, but he couldn't throw the idea of him possibly being of a higher class out either. That would be an investigation for another time.
Ok, so the male was staring this whole deal all at once, and already have the rest of his crew lined up for the picking. He had to admit for someone going along with an idea nobody ever thought about before was really appealing him. It was original, raw, and unshaped by rest the world to accept as of yet. Most importantly, it was probably his only chance to take to the sky. It was one of those moments in your life when you have the chance to make something worthwhile, grasp it and never let it go - even if the world starts to crumble at your feet.
Kiir brought Jack out of his train of thoughts after the mentioning of the monsters coming back for revenge. A grin formed upon his lips coming to an exact conclusion then and there. "Kiir, my friend," he said enthusiastically, "You have yourself a new mate aboard the Sparrow."
He took his eye-patch friend's hand sealing his fate on aboard the airship, and thus this would be the stepping stones to his new lifestyle.

"Jack, you're not going to regret this," Kiir said as he shook the blonde man's hand. But he didn't let go after the shake, either. Instead he held onto the man's hand tightly and threw his own weight out over the cliff, to take the man by surprise. As he fell backward, undoubtedly taking the hybrid with him, Kiir shifted both of their gravity to the side of the cliff instead of down, causing them not to fall but merely to land.
From there it was merely a matter of walking down the side of a cliff and onward to their future. Provided the bulbins don't get wise, spot them and drop a boulder on them or something. But that was highly unlikely. Bulbins weren't that creative, nor quick enough to think up something like that. Chances are if they were spotted they'd be well and gone before the Bulbins got over the fact that they ran up a wall then down a wall.
"You're a man who knows a good opportunity when it presents itself, and that's what I need from you. Don't forget that, Jack, it'll be important one day." Kiir said as he strolled down the side of the mountain. "And most importantly you'll need to know how to enjoy life. That's what this is all about. Freedom and enjoyment." Money and fame were no trouble for Kiir if he wanted. He could just return to the City. But the freedom wasn't there. That was the beauty of the Sparrow.

He wasn't quite sure what he's gotten himself into exactly, but he might as well enjoy the ride while it was being offered to him firsthand. This time around Jack got a good idea on what to expect with Kiir as he pulled his weight, along with the blond right over the cliff, and found his center of gravity readjusted once more against the wall of the cliff. When his hand was released, he tucked both of them away in his pockets following casually behind his new found partner. He could see great things happening in the future between them so he kept his spirits high on what's to come.
"Making use of opportunities when they arise is an art," he replied back, "The rarity behind it can only be appreciated with time, and effort." That was exactly how he felt this group of his would turn out to be. Jack was quite eager to meet the rest of the crew Kiir had in mind wondering what kind of people he was going to be working with soon. From right behind him, he could hear the annoying shouting, and noise coming from the group of monsters that didn't seem to have it in them to leave the two men alone. They really weren't the brightest creatures out there, and realizing that the males who climbed up the cliff were no longer in sight only fueled the fires of their frustration.
"You don't have to tell me twice, mate," he grinned. While he didn't mind working hard to get his fill in life, he wasn't going to make no complaints if he could take the easy way out of things. No, he wasn't a coward or lazy, it was just a matter of preference. When pushed comes to shove, he had no problem putting his confidence into actions. For now, he felt it would be wise to sink into the feeling of being apart of a crew now rather than flying solo.
