Pirate's Bay, the nigh impregnable fortress of Merik and his pirate followers, was a man-made island city within the remnants of a volcanic crater nearly five miles around. The central island is covers nearly three miles of the inner bay and is large enough to dock dozens of ships with room for many more to lay anchor out in the water. The only way in was through dangerous tunnels within the crater walls; unfortunate for those who had tried to breach the core as even skilled captains who had made the journey hundreds of times could find themselves in a quickly sinking ship. With all the people who lived there, the shops and taverns that dotted the island and all the pirates who came and went the island was constantly being supplied allowing them to withstand a siege for years without difficulty if it ever came to it. As time has passed and more people have come to the pirate capital it has actually expanded upwards. Wooden platforms now rise above many of the original buildings and continue upwards for five levels. It's incredibly dangerous but somehow (mostly with help from technologically driven people) it has managed to stand. In the center of the island is Pirate's Keep, Merik's personal stronghold and the center of his sea-based empire. It also rises up through each of the levels and has an entrance connecting to each.
