Well...Rion honestly didn't know what to do with himself. He had been pretty much given a day off for the festival so he could take time to himself and 'relax.' Did the criminals have a day off? No. Why should he? But, regardless, his superior had made it almost an order, so he had to accept or get in trouble. So now the guard was walking the streets of Hyrule castle, just looking around. Wasn't much else he could do, really. None of the vendors interested him in the slightest. Of course, he wasn't officially on duty, so the fact that his hand kept drifting to his sword hilt was rather odd. But Rion wouldn't part with Collosia for anything, and as it was his sword and not issue he was allowed to. His bow and quiver had to stay behind, but not his blade, and the guard took some comfort in the smooth grip as he navigated the crowded streets. He took some comfort, at least, on observing how happy everyone was. Nobody was breaking any laws, and most everyone he saw was having a good time. There were the few holdouts, but certainly they weren't doing anything illegal.
He turned a corner, and then had to hop back in order to clear the way. Two gorons had emerged from the street carrying a large barrel between the two of them. One gave him a look, while the other smiled apologetically as they went on their way. Rion stared after them a while before turning....and practically slamming into another person. He pulled back and looked the man over. "I'm sorry about that....I got a little distracted. Everything alright?"

So far, the festival had had its ups and downs for Ryan. Arrests, brawls, music and good food. It was a veritable explosion of events and happenstance that he honestly could not for the life of him say he had been ready for. I mean really, how do you prepare for something like today, anyway? So many things happening all at once, a solid mixture of the good and the bad. It was like being in a show about the life of one man trying to see how much he could cram in to his day all at once.
Regardless of how this day turned out, Ryan did know that he would count it as one of his better days. There was something to be said about arresting the right hand man of a major criminal empire, then finding out the identity of the head in the same day. So, a good day. In fact he would honestly call it one of the better days he had had in a long while.
Of course, walking at the brisk pace he was and focusing on the past tended to distract oneself from what was going on right in front of you. As a result it was no surprise that someone smashed headlong in to him, and he was unprepared to try and avoid it. Stumbling back a few feet form the impact, Ryan shook his head to clear his thoughts and look at the man who was apologizing to him. "Its quite alright, I wasn't paying attention to what I was doing either, no harm done." The man in front of him looked familiar, was he one of the guards that protected Hyrule? Ryan wasn't sure, but he looked like someone Ryan had seen before.

The other man....he was familiar. Oddly enough, and Rion could almost place the familiarity. The shape of his nose, the particular chin, it all reminded him of his father. Shaking old memories from his head, the guard also waved away the man's words. "I wasn't paying attention either, and for that I apologize. I was remiss. You are unhurt and that is well, but it had been quite rude of me." Rion looked back the way the man had come, and then back at Ryan. Only inattention could explain how, exactly, Rion had crashed into him. The man was taller then he was. Despite being 'average,' and wearing dull clothes, he didn't exactly blend in to a guard's sharp eyes.
Finally, Rion stuck out a hand. In order to make up for his rudeness earlier, he had to be politer. And show Ryan some courtesy to absolve it. No need for rumors of rude and crass guards to move about...or more rumors at any rate. "Regardless, the name's Rion Green. I'm one of the Kingdom's guards, though I'm off duty at the moment. Pleased to make your acquaintance mister....?"

Ryan froze. Stopped moving entirely as the man before him said his name. This was as close to an outright shocked reaction as one was likely to get from Ryan. It was really only his masterful self-control that prevented him from doing something cliche, like gasping in surprise or taking a step back in awe. Later he would be extremely grateful for this, as he would not want to recount the story with any degree of honesty and say he reacted like some third-rate actor in the local theater club's play. If this man really was who Ryan suspected he was, things could get very dramatic very fast.
"My name is Ryan Green." He said, giving the man before him a scrutinizing look. Yes, there were definitely similarities between the two of them, as well as the phantom-memories that Ryan had of his parents. The odds were staggering that this man would be his brother, yet here he was looking at all the evidence to the contrary. It would seem that Fate truly did have a sense of irony, having carved his way to the top of the political and military hierarchy for the whole of humankind by his own merits, his thought-to-be-dead brother would show up almost literally out of the blue like this.

Rion stared at Ryan, his hand still offered as the other man processed his name. Not possessing any telepathic abilities, the guard was unable to deduce why exactly the taller man ignored the proffered hand and stared at him. But there was, again, nothing he could do about it. If people chose to be rude, they could. It wasn't illegal, just frowned upon. And Rion was very much frowning. Maybe it was because he was a guard, or said he was. Some didn't appreciate the knights, though goddesses knew why. They were a fairly inoffensive group, protecting from harm and doing good so that the citizens didn't have problems.
And then, of course, he suddenly figured out why. Slowly his hand dropped to his side, and the other raised to gripping his sword hilt. He was reassured by the comforting grip as his head did its best to wrap around the other man's name. Ryan....green? The name of his long-dead brother? And to top it all off, the man's similarity was uncanny. He wasn't stupid, but the fact that he had watched his home burn with everyone inside was providing a cautionary word to the growing hope raising in his mind. Surely not.....but if it were. Instead, Rion gave a curt nod, trying his best not to reveal anything that had gone remiss. "Mister Green then. Funny, you'd think we were related." The guard looked around. "So then, is there anything I can do to make up for my discourtesy? Anything at all?"

Rion hadn't reacted to the name 'Ryan Green'. Maybe he wasn't his younger brother? Perhaps it was all just a sheer staggering coincidence? A joke at his expense made by the hands of Fate? Some part of him doubted it though, some instinct told him that this was real, that the man standing before him was in fact his long-lost brother. Ryan had learned to trust his instincts long ago, but he couldn't exactly go about saying things like "Are you my long dead brother back from the grave?" That would just be awkward. Plus, if he was wrong then it would only compound the awkwardness many times over.
So, what to do? How to determine whether this man was his brother or not? It would have to be subtle, some offhand question or comment that his brother could only react to in one way, but he was at a loss for how to ask or what. Then of course the idea came to him, inspired by Rion's offhand comment about their theoretical relation. It was simplicity itself, really. "Indeed, the odds of two such people having nigh identical names meeting each other are staggeringly low. Tell me, what were your parents names?"

Unconciously, the guardsman stiffened, his knuckles growing sharp at the hand that tightened on the sword hilt. Normally, the question was an innocent one, and no matter the motives it was nigh impossible to take offense to it. However, with the slight shock of this man having a similar name and appearance to one long since dead....and the fact that he didn't say 'are.' He had said 'were.' That was clue enough to tell Rion that Ryan may have had a small idea about what the answer was, and simply asked to confirm suspicions. Resigned to what lay in store, the guard finally let go of his sword after some deliberation and looked Ryan dead in the eyes.
Afterall, the answer would deal with his own fledgling hope as well. No need for uncertainty. "An odd request, but one I shall nonetheless answer. My parents were known as Hector and Marian Green, not nobles by far but neither were they pheasants." Shifting his stance slightly, Rion raised his head a little, standing straighter. "Will that suffice, Mister Green?"

Well, that was that then. Suspicions confirmed, this man was in fact his brother. The name was the same, the parents were the same, everything was identical to how it would have been if Rion and he had grown up together and not suffered the tragedy that had befallen them inter youth. The only question now was how to break it to the man.
"Those were my parent's names, as well." There, that should be tactful enough not to bash the man over the head with the truth, but forward enough so that it would be impossible not to realize exactly who Ryan was. Now it was all on Rion, how would the man react to the revelation that he still had family out there? Ryan had to admit he hadn't see this coming when he got up in the morning.

It took some time for Rion to properly let the revelation sink in. He had suspected it because of the odd coincidences, true, but his logic kept shooting down his hopes cruelly. And yet, here it was, all evidence challenging his mentality to find a flaw. Any loose thread in the facts. As good as the guard was at things such as that, he failed to find anything to unravel the evidence. Same name as his brother, resembled himself, and even claimed to have the same parents....or ones with similar names. And again, he looked about the right age for his older brother, a fact that lodged in his head and refused to go away. There were no to ways to look at it, his brother was alive...
"I had believed you dead, Ryan. I saw the house burn with my own two eyes." Awkwardly, Rion looked to the side. What did you say to someone you hadn't seen in years, and had thought dead? And surely Ryan thought the same, for the guard could tell that the other man hadn't been expected his appearance at all. They had been both caught off guard by the encounter, though it wasn't a unwanted meeting at all. Finally, Rion managed to pry his head back to look his brother in the face. True his eyes were glistening, but no tears fell. Hard habits were tough to break. "How did you survive the raid?"

Pure luck, really. I was outside when they attacked our home, I didn't think anyone had survived so I tried to run. I would have died if not for the trader who came by our home every so often, he was in the area and took me in." He decided to leave out the various ups and downs he went through before he made his way to the top of the ladder as far as Human society went. In many ways he exemplified what it meant to be human, to not struggle against impossible odds, but to win, and make oneself a legend in the process. Or that could simply be dressing up a horrible life with lots of good and bad luck everywhere. Either way that part of his life was over with, and he was looking towards the future now, a future that apparently included his brother.
"How did you survive? I was under the impression that I was the only one left." He asked, mirroring his brother's own question. The fact that he had managed to scrape by with his life was a marvel in and of itself, that his brother also managed to avoid losing his life was a borderline miracle.

Rion's lips twitched in a bitter smile. "My tale is much the same as yours, I'm afraid. That night my nose had been in my book just too much, and mother wanted me to put it down for the hundredth time. Instead of placing it beside my bed, I took one of our lanterns and went outside. I was reading there, on that hill a ways back, when the attack happened." Memories were horrible things, and as the guard stated this, he remembered that night. The horrible crackling of flames and the bright scarring upon the night sky. The yells and whoops of the bandits as they rode off in the night, letting the orange monster devour everything he had ever known. It had been heartrending, and he was having trouble fitting the broken shell he had been that night to what he was now.
"When a guard patrol finally came across the ashes, they found me kneeling there. Having no other recourse of action, they took me to the orphanage." Rion gave a shrug. "And other then that, there's not much else to say. But perhaps the goddesses are giving a recourse for the cruel hand dealt. In return for losing our home and family, we have a reunion." A small bark of a laugh as Rion looked at the happy crowd around him and his brother, and then back to his only family. "Its almost like one of the fairy tales I read as a child. Despite hardships at the beginning, the hero looks to find something he had lost at the end of the road." And indeed it was. Only thing the guard would wish more was that the rest of his family were here, but he was content with his brother. No need to ask the impossible of fate.

"Gods be damned, they were of no help to us when we were attacked, why should they go out of their way to help us now?" Ryan said with a derisive snort. He had no real love for the gods, and personally felt that they were meddlers at best, antagonistic at the worst. If the myths were true, what kind and loving Goddesses would organize and endless war between the three holders of the Triforce?
"But come, brother, I think we had best find ourselves a privet location, I have a feeling we have a lot of catching up to do, and standing around in a crowd isn't the best way to do it." He said, gesturing to one of the many picnic tables where people were sitting, laughing and eating and drinking. It was almost ironic that he would find his long lost brother amidst a crowd of families, but Ryan chose to simply ignore this fact and be content with what little luck he had managed so far.
OOC Seems like a good place to end it.

Rion tilted an eyebrow. Well, not often you saw someone with derision and contempt for the goddesses; but maybe not totally unexpected. "Call it fate, then. In any case, it is certainly a turn for the better." The guard shifted a little. Well, true enough this couldn't completely make up for losing everything you had known, everything you had cared about. What about his father, and mother? The rest of the family trapped in the wooden cage? And the home itself, with his vast library of books, and the cache of trinkets and heirlooms that were all either eradicated or ruined thanks to the senseless arson? But again, Rion had no desire to ask too much of fate. His brother was alive, and that was good enough for now.
"I agree. Perhaps I can buy you lunch in the process perhaps. I'm sure you're as hungry as I am." Far too much catching up had to be done. years, almost decades to recover through recollections and simple conversation. The guard was thankful he had the day off, as he was afraid that he wouldn't have had the time otherwise. He tapped his sword hilt thoughtfully. Well, today was a day for celebration was it not? It seemed rather appropriate, then, that the reunion was made on such a day. It fit, somehow.
Ooc: Sure. *Ryan Green has acquired 'SUMMON BROTHER' to help him in times of need* 8U
