Today was just a normal day for Sundosia. She was sweeping the floor of the shop that her late-husband's parents owned. She still worked there, and they still cared for her only daughter. It was a fair trade-off. She had often threatened to take their only granddaughter away if they did not comply with letting her stay as well, and they had finally agreed. A steady job, a steady pay, it was just alright. Of course, to Sundosia, she was rather dissatisfied. Not that the child was holding her down, but the fact that every day was just the same. Day in and day out, she always felt like she was doing the same thing, just working at the grind really.
Once she had finished sweeping, she made her way out to the hustle and bustle of the busy town. She was just not really sure where she was going. Her sharp blue eyes watched as people went to and from places, as though they had to get everything done immediately. Sundosia was not often like that. She was usually taking life with it's steady paces, time slowly dragging itself along. The minutes were ticking by at a sluggish pace, and she was just flat-out bored. She did not blame her child, no, not at all. The child was a very well-behaved girl and not a sniveling brat like the freckle-haired kid down the street. She wanted to be a part of something, wanted something different.
The opportunity had just not come along yet. She was like a tiger in a cage, restless, longing for the day the careless soul opens up the door. She would pounce out and run free. Where would she go? Well, her daughter would be safe with the grandparents, and she would not be like her own parents. She would come by every once in a while to see the daughter and spend time with her. Sure, that may not be the best parenting trick, but the child was mature enough to know more than an eight-year-old should know. Even the grandparents had encouraged it, telling her that she was young and should get out more and they would watch the girl. It worried her, but she lived with it.
Oh boy, she was becoming the atypical parent, living the typical life. The very idea of being the stereotypical house-wife with a dusty brown dress, an apron draped around her and doting about her children and gossiping with other house-wives around the fountain, was her idea of a nightmare. No, she would feel too caged up then. The very thought almost made her feel like she was choking. That was it, she had to go and find something to do with her life. If opportunity was not going to come to her, she was just going to have to go find it.
Sundosia moved through the streets, her blue eyes moving from left to right. Her mind raced with the ideas of where she could begin. She looked up to see the castle over-shadowing the town and moved toward it, as though she were drawn to it like a magnet. Perhaps this is where her destiny lay? She did not like the term destiny, but perhaps this was where the door to opportunity could be opened at least. One way to find out.

It was a nice enough day, he supposed. The christmas season always bugged him due to the sheer false cheer of it, but the lack of snow was always nice. Last year had been nothing but snow snow snow snow, three feet at least for the entire season. It had been murder trying to get around anywhere decent, not to mention heating and food had been hard to come by, even with the magical firestone that produced warmth without apparent limit had been taxed to their breaking point to fight off the cold.
Anyway, Ryan was enjoying the winter this year. The streets were crowded of course, as they always were, but he was making good enough time on them to his destination. He was forced to dodge several people stalled at a vendor's booth or sellers trying to peddle their goods on him. Just another reason for him to dislike christmas really, the whole holiday stank of greed and selfishness. Okay, maybe that was going a bit far, but still.
Unfortunately he wasn't paying attention to where he was going while walking, and accidentally bumped in to a women with long black hair. "Oh, pardon me ma'am. I wasn't paying attention to where I was going." Crap, he hoped she didn't recognize him as the Champion of Humanity. In this situation the women's response would (based on past experiences) be one of two reactions: Either she would be intimidated by his status, or she would try and milk it for all it was worth. Why did he have to have a luck like this?

She felt someone come into contact with her, and immediately she looked to see it was the Human Champion. Looking to him, her first thought was to ignore him but she simply gave a wry smile, "Quite alright, mister human Champion." She said as she crossed her arms to her chest. Honestly, she did not care if he was the king himself. He best not go trying to flaunt his status. Of course, she was not stupid. She was not about to anger him and push her luck, but she was not going to treat him any different than she did anyone else. He really gave her no reason to. What was the point of trying to milk it? There was no power to gain from it. He was far stronger than she would ever be. "Though, I'm sure you have a proper name." She added and seemed to be waiting on something. Sundosia was expecting him to tell her what his name was, but was not sure if she was keeping her expectations too high.
Oh well, she would prove somehow that his rank did not really matter to her. It was not going to help her any, and trying to obtain it herself would probably be suicidal. Her daughter had already lost one parent. The young child did not need to lose another. Her blue eyes looked him over from top to bottom, still not deriving any reason to manipulate him. Though she had admit, his looks were very pleasing to the eyes, but it was the personality that counted. As far as she was concerned, even with his rank, he was not worthy of her efforts.

Oh, wonderful. She knew who he was AND she was being snarky about it as well. Odds are this was just a prelude to try and guilt him in to doing something for her, or just use it as an excuse to launch in to the typical 'down with the government' or 'what have you done for us lately mister leader?' type speech. Why do bad things happen to good people like him? Its not his fault that he had all the rotten luck, he blamed Fate for that.
"Well, if you know who I am, then you must know my name, seems silly that you would know one without knowing the other." If she was going to be mean about this whole thing, he would throw it right back at her just as well, Snark to Snark Combat, if you will. "Its not like I'm the leader of the entire human race or anything, I'm sure my name must be public knowledge by now." Oddly, people DIDN'T typically know his name, or if they knew that they didn't know he was the Human Leader, it was always one or the other. He wasn't sure if he should be grateful for the anonymity or annoyed at the lack of recognition.

Snarky, yes, that was just how Sundosia was. A wry smile crossed her lips at his responses. Already, her own responses were whirling up in her mind, "Not really, I just know you're the Human Champion, I never paid much attention to the rest of the details. Not that important to me." She said, okay, now she was just pressing his buttons, and he seemed to be falling right into it. Yes, she understood that he was the Human Champion, and yes, she understood he had a high rank and important role in the governmental scheme of things, but, he should just keep doing what he did, and she would keep doing what she did. It was why the ranks were not important to her, but now she was not going to let him think that. Let's make him squirm a little, from it. Surely, with his 'celebrity status' he often got requests and the like, or antagonized for his rank. It was something she could try to pick at. Perhaps he gloated in it, and she would just feed his ego, but then she would just switch her strategy. She did not know, she was only guessing at this point.
"So, what's the Human Champion doing here today?" She inquired, "Arresting some thieves? Loafing around?" There was nothing she wanted from him, just to try to make him squirm a little. Try to figure out what makes him tick. He was her new toy, for now, and she was going to enjoy teasing and playing and poking at him. Sure, he may have a terrible bite, in fact, he probably did, but it would be then she would reveal that she was just messing with him the whole time. It would make him look like the fool in the end. He had the brawn, but did he have the brains?

"Well, try to keep up on your local politics, there is a lot going on out there that affects you more than you would think. Its good to keep an eye on that type of thing." He supposed that answered that question of how she would react to his status: Give him crap. Granted it wasn't the kind of crap he was expecting, he was expecting attacks on his person or something else along those lines, not obvious attempts to bait him. Still he supposed it could be worse, she could be a fangirl or something like that, so count your blessings, right?
"Oh, no arrests today, that was a few days ago when I ran across an idiot pirate who more or less inadvertently sold out his own leader." A literal truth if there ever was one, while it was no doubt that talking about an ongoing investigation was a bad thing, he had given her exactly zero bits of proper information.

Looks like she would have to be more discreet in her attempts to bait him and trip him up. Perhaps he would provide a challenge, of course he would. She preferred to go after the weak and insecure, not those who were obviously confident of themselves to be a higher-up. He had to have some sort of confidence in himself, or else he would not be the Human Champion, is that right? At least he was not going around and expecting her to praise him and everything he did, she had to give him that. She had asked if he had made any arrests today and he said not today, but had made a high-profile arrest with a pirate who had practically sold out his leader.
At this, Sundosia gave a laugh. She could probably make a better henchwoman than those pirates. At least she knew how to be subtle and discreet, most of the time. "Sounds like a high-profile thing. Well, I'll leave you to head off and do whatever is you do with those things." She said as she turned from him and began to walk away. Why should she talk to him? Not like he would be interested in her anyways, and he had nothing she desired. For now, she was just going to leave him alone.

What, she was leaving? Just like that? He had admit he was disappointed in this turn of events, she was proving to be an amusing conversation partner. So far she had treated the whole "leader" thing with a fair edge of grace, unlike some people he could mention. He had to stop himself from wincing as he recalled a fanboy he had picked up once, that had been a pain in the ass.
"Well, if you're going to the castle I can escort you to wherever you need to be. I never get to abuse my privileges as the Champion much, so this will be a nice bit indulgence." Really, Ryan rarely took advantage of the full scope of his lordly powers and privileges, preferring to act like one of the crowd, but he figured there was nothing wrong in using his status to help someone, right?

At his words, she whirled back around to face him again. He had offered to escort her there. Thinking on it a moment, she gave a shrug "I really don't see why not." She said, though was hoping he was not lying about it or anything. Sundosia had never seen the castle before really, and since he had presented the opportunity, she may as well take it. Wait, was there some sort of catch? She was wary about it, "Unless someone will get into trouble for such abuse." She mentioned, deciding to play it rather safe. That was just how she was. She liked to play it smart. Sure, some may call it paranoia, but she knew there were many unscrupulous characters out there. Of course, it did not hurt to mess with him a little like that as well. Perhaps the two could talk more along the way. Was she going to have to watch what she said around him? Well, he did not seem the type to abuse his power because he did not like what someone had said, at least that was the impression she got so far. Sundosia probably figured she really had nothing to worry about it in that regard.
