Seayn had come out of the city to examine the fields for a bit. He had always dreamed of jousting someone and he figured that there would be no better place than right here outside of Castle Town. Of course he would have offer prizes and find people willing to risk themselves to do so. He wasn't quite sure that many people knew how to joust... Seayn didn't even know. He assumed it was going to be fairly simple, block their lance, and shove the pointy end at the other person. He wondered if it was considered bad form to block it with a magical shield. He scratched the bottom of his chin as he looked about, feeling a small amount of wind tug at his clothing. He frowned, looking at the ground. For the most part, it was flat yet there were places that a horse's hoof could snag that could send it tumbling forward which could be deadly for both it and its rider.
The young man turned back to the city, looking at the castle. He wondered if he could perhaps get it sanctioned by Princess Zelda. No doubt that would make it much more popular since she was the target of many reckless youths' affection. He had no doubt there was many a lad that would imagine that the princess would name them her champion and give her a token of hers. The more Seayn thought about it the more it appealed to himself which made him feel more than a little bit foolish. His eyes went back to the slightly overcast sky, the sun hidden behind, causing the day to seem dreary and gray. Not exactly an ideal day but the day he had gone out anyways to examine this place for himself. He drew Excalipur, examining the exquisite blade that was completely useless in an actual fight. He wasn't completely sure why he kept it.

"No! I don't want you to tell me how I should be asking for the archives. Just get them to me before you find yourself encased in ice!" Clyde and another man were walking along the drawbridge, but was soon left alone as the other man ran off. Clyde looked livid as he shook his head, firing off a shot of ice magic into the sky. It popped up in the sky with a nice pop and sprinkled small snowflakes from the sky.
"Complete and utter morons, all of them" he muttered to himself, unaware of the armored man in the field not far from him. He drove his staff into the ground with a disappointed grunt, clearly unhappy with how this day had progressed. It seemed like everyone was trying to get in his way. No one was going to stand in the way of him being back in his estate, no matter how many boots he had to step on. It was stuck to him like an obsession, though Clyde would never admit it.

Seayn grimaced at the sight of some upstart mage that seemed to have little to no patience. It was the most common sort of mage that he had ever seen. He shook his head, sheathing Excalipur as he tromped over the the other man. "Not very cool tempered for a mage that uses ice, hmmm?" Seayn chuckled at his own small joke, although he still seemed far from amused. He ran a hand through his hair, keeping his gaze mostly devoid of emotion.
"It generally motivates people more to help someone they like. Not someone who is going to freeze them into a block of ice at the slightest whim." He said, attempting to give the man advice that he was unlikely to take. Seayn stopped for a moment, wondering how hot-headed this ice mage might be. He let out an overly exaggerated yawn to show that he didn't put much concern in what he might say in return.

Clyde rolled his eyes as another man walked up to him. What, did he offend the armor-clad human in some way. He grimaced as the man gave a sarcastic quip before explaining how to deal with incompetence.
"Hmph. Sarcasm. A foolish response." He scoffed, a typical response for the cryomancer. "You clearly have not dealt with the kind of people I have. Incompetence only responds to aggression, fear. Give them what they like and they'll drift right back to their bad habits when you're done. Threats stick with them." Clyde clearly did not like being lectured. Then again, there was little he did like. He also didn't like the nerve of the other to yawn during his response, but kept his mouth shut for now. He could always summon a blizzard at a moment's notice.

"Everybody loves their daily dose of sarcasm." Seayn said, shrugging as he looked the man over again. White hair, which he wasn't old enough for such things which led the young knight to believe that his new acquaintance had a taste for theatrics. He shook his head, finding it silly. "And everyone knows the best way to escape threats is to run and hide. What happens then? You replace them? When you have the reputation of a donkey's backside? Not likely. Then you're on your own."
He tilted his head at the ice mage. "Ahh, I forgot to introduce myself. I am the Warden known as Seayn." Seayn held out a hand, although he wasn't quite sure if the other man would take it. It was quite obvious that the other man might have problems with anger and similar things.

"Fools love their daily dose of sarcasm" Clyde retorted. Sarcasm was the game of the low-class. Clyde may be in the slums now, but it was only a temporary establishment.
"Who says anything about running? Those with intelligence know exactly how to push the right buttons, if you shouldn't be pushing a man's buttons, chances are you don't have you. People who follow through don't need to be pushed." One of the things Clyde had learned in the past year was who he could speak against and who he couldn't. However, he was still learning for some. For example, when Seayn mentioned he was a warden, the cryomancer let out a cold condescending laugh. "You're a Warden? I wonder how one like yourself gets into such a prestigious position." The question was genuine, but said with a cold smile. Clyde was skeptical of Seayn's claim, to put it nicely.

"Foolish, fools, do you have anything else to say of sarcasm besides the part about its relationship to being foolish?" Seayn could only wonder how this man could afford to have someone working for him, let alone actually do his bidding. He shook his head, frowning at what he thought was a flawed argument. "First off, threatening to freeze someone in a block of ice is hardly the right button. Ice isn't generally scary, plus from the look of you, I doubt your ability to do that anyways. Secondly, if you have to resort to death threats to get someone to do something, then you have the wrong person in the first place."
Seayn then tapped into something that he wasn't used to doing. "Plus, I know the noble families about Castle Town and you're definitely not a member of any of them. Thus I doubt your experience in commanding servants or poking the right buttons as you seem to call it. As for how I became a Warden, I'm useful."

Seayn was clearly not trying to win any points with Clyde. The warden was saying all of the wrong things and getting on the icy mage's bad side. Clyde, as a retort, simply grabbed up his staff in both of his hands and sighed.
"How little you really know. For one, I will have you know that should the need arise, my ability to encase someone in an ice prison is very much a possibility. Two, you should know that I was once part of a prestigious noble house and very soon I will be back in my illustrious estate. And if this town were not populated by drunkards and low-lifes I would already be in the estate instead of having to deal with the likes of you." His eyes began to glow, a cold glow, the white of snow appearing like a blizzard's gaze. "And as far as you're concerned, if I must step over a warden in order to get what I have come here for, then so be it!" The madness of winter, at that moment, seemed to explode out of him in a radiant burst, ice flying out in small harmless chunks. Clyde fell to one knee, breathing heavily, clutching his chest.
"My apologies, warden. As a cryomancer I should know to remain calm and cool, but I have failed in that regard." It took a couple of deep breaths, but Clyde was able to right himself, though he remained on one knee.

Seayn grabbed the hilt of his sword as he saw the other man grab his staff, although he wasn't sure what good it would be, it was reflex. He listened patiently to the other man as Clyde spoke to him. He didn't particularly think good things about this fellow. His eyes narrowed as the other man began to lose control of the wintry fury contained with himself. As a few harmless chunks of ice flew at him, he cast Bulwark upon himself, easily deflect the ice and anything that came along with it.
"No damage done, it's fine. I suppose that I should also apologize but the way you treated that man irked me. I should have been more courteous." Seayn couldn't help but wonder about this man's claim. It wasn't as if there weren't many people that would claim the same if meticulous records weren't kept of such things along with heirs and other such things. He let go of the hilt of his sword, falling into a more relaxed position.

Clyde was eventually able to stand on his own two feet again, though he still used his staff as support. "Do not apologize. If the man had done the task I had paid him for, this wouldn't have happened. You are a warden, and did not inherit the position, much how I did not inherit the position of nobility. Regardless, I myself apologize for putting you in any danger, though with the size of your armor I'm sure you would be able to withstand it." Clyde was mentally cursing himself for losing control. He needed to be more mature, noble, not let his emotions ruin him. Calm, cool, calculated.
"However, Warden, you never answered my question. What is it that one does to become a Warden for the humans? It would behoove me to learn of my potential protectors outside of the Hylian Royal Family." He returned to a cold, cool face, not letting his emotions show too readily. Which was good, because shame was never a brave face to have, and Clyde was ashamed of his actions.

Seayn looked the man over again, acutely aware that he still had not provided his name. "What exactly did you pay the man for? If it's something to do with the nobility you have lost, I might be of some help." He said, clearly not willing to go into any further details until the mage had deigned to release at least a small amount of the mystery that surrounded him. He looked him over, wondering if this man aspired to be one of the Wardens as well... Regardless, it wouldn't hurt to tell him how to go about it. "The best way to become a Warden is to impress the champion. Or you could simply impress Zelda... or even the local nobility for that matter. I'm sure he would concede to their wishes. I must have impressed some body in my life time."
Seayn was reluctant to answer the question to say the least, so he attempted to divert the conversation. "I don't believe any recent nobility have left Castle Town. Your family would have had to do so out of recent memory." He didn't bother to mention that most nobles didn't up and leave. Banishment was more likely a reason than any but he didn't want to continue to insult the ice mage after he'd already had an outburst of anger.

Clyde, now knowing that he was in the presence of a Warden, thought that it would be safe to reveal some of his past. Despite an outburst, Seayn had remained, and there was something to be said about a man of character.
"I'm an Ottokar. Old noble family until Martin Ottokar just left about 150 years ago. I have his journal, says he left because the politics had drained him. The man I hired was supposed to retrieve the Ottokar ancestral line, but of course he barely even looked for it. It should be in the generational archives but he needs to look harder." That was the bare-bones information. There was more to it than that, but even a Warden didn't need to know all of the information.
"So you don't know exactly what you did? I would think that would be made clear during your inauguration." Perhaps there was more than Seayn was letting on, but Clyde wouldn't pry too much. He was a noble, but if they had power over who was made Warden, this was something he needed to know.

Seayn wasn't quite as familiar with such things as he might have made himself seem. He knew the current noble names and most of the current members but other than that, he was at a loss. He didn't know how they made their rupees, where their estates were, or the way they played politics. He would have to try and remedy that particular failure but at the moment his concern would have to be the Ottokar family. "Strange that. Not many nobles decide to up and leave lives of luxury but I have no reason to doubt your claim. It's not as if I've kept track of the noble families other than the ones currently in power." He was going to check this man's claim and see if he could help any with it but other than getting a noble title, he wasn't sure that any of the nobility would want to give this man anything more than that token of his ancestry.
"I'm sure they did bring it up." Seayn said curtly, clearly unwilling to explain himself. He turned back to examine the field, wondering what the procedure when dealing with a noble family member that had come to reclaim what he felt was his. It wouldn't seem righteous to keep away what had rightfully been theirs but it also seemed wrong to just hand everything back to a descendant of the line. He ran a hand through his hair as he pondered the situation before turning back to look over the cryomancer again. He wondered why a man claiming to be a noble hadn't come to the authorities of the city yet. He was almost positive Zelda would know whether or not his claim was legitimate.

It was clear that the Warden in his midst was not going to be of further help. He seemed to be hiding information, understandably so. There was a certain mystery to Clyde's backstory, as well as many unanswered questions. Doubt was a strong tool, though Clyde did have proof if it was so needed. But for now, he would depart back into town, in the hope that one of his contacts would follow up.
"I will now take my leave. If you find any information of use, relay it my way." He then turned and walked off. There was little to be gained from such a kindhearted individual who felt like sticking his nose in the business of others. But it mattered not. As a Warden, his potential use was substantial. He crossed the drawbridge back into town, not acknowledging the Warden after turning around.
