It was a fine afternoon to say the least : the sun's rays were strong upon the castle town, shining upon the wanderers that matched their clipped steps to the streets. Of course, many followed thousands of paths : and thus the woman with blonde hair that stood outside of the bug queen's palace, leaning against the tree in such a restful state, gained no two looks : if any, it was to her large bosom, which inherently attracted perverted glances of both male and female kind. Not that the undead was aware : well perhaps that isn't the right term. In fact, the re-dead did not care, unless she needed such reactions to satisfy her hunger. But that was not the purpose of the female in town today. No, no, she had a more suitable purpose for one to walk amongst those sentient to life, able to think and moralize.
She was on the traces of her past, simply said. After all, the sweet, adorable faced zombie had awoken after she was covered in blood, just before she was taken by slave traders and sold to her master. The woman touched the ruby pendant, suspended at her heart briefly. After all, it was one of the few reminders that she had to the loyalty of her master : he had never abused the Re-Dead, which was odd, and even kept her fed. Even now, she still preferred to hunt for her prey : but should she want an easy meal, she could get it. But the undead wasn't quite sure why she had an aversion to certain things.
That's why she had decided to contact that person. After all, the underground world had been adamant about how good this one was. As it was the undead's first foray into her past, or any intention towards it, it was indeed a big step. But as always, Valdis found herself too hot tempered to wait : that's why she was here, at 3pm, at the tree outside Agitha's house. It was the entire reason anyways : with a light smile on her lips, she kept her body tense and wired. Ready for action, should need be : after all, Valdis was never one to slouch, when the blood pounded in her veins.
After all, that blood pounded only right after she ate : so she enjoyed the stirring heat all over. With a flick of her tongue, blood that had been lingering on the side of her lips was swept away into her mouth, metallic and coppery on her tongue. It was softly sweet to the zombie : and that made her smile for real this time.

The letter remained unread in her mailbox. That was one trick that Vylira never tired of. Letters had to be written and as they were written she knew. She kept a special ear to the ground, see, for any mention of her own name, written, spoken or implied. She liked knowing what people thought about her, knowing what people said, and more importantly knowing which business deals were good and which were bad. Keaton were notoriously hard to catch, but even Vylira could see the value of having one caged. Shame that was practically impossible, but that didn't stop people from trying.
This deal, however, was intriguing. It wasn't the first time someone came to her seeking information on themselves. Amnesia was fairly common in this day and age. But this was the first time she'd been contacted by someone who was dead and not just a poe (though poe clientele were a particularly rare occurrence). A ReDead making an active effort to learn about herself, her past, that was new for Vylira, and so she was there before the satiated cadaver was, though her own presence was kept unknown. She was never early for a meeting, but she did like to scope it out first.
And then show up fashionably late. Put them on edge, caused their thoughts to get a tad rapid. People who were irritated tended to make more brash mistakes when it came to the actual bargaining process. Vylira could sense, however, that this one wasn't going to be stingy about payment. The keaton briefly considered playing some mind games with illusions first, considering the little comment about a trick of the light, but she decided against. People liked to play their games, even if they were dead.
She stood up from her table, dropped a rupee from her sleeve down onto the saucer for the waitress, and left the outdoor cafe. It was just down the street from the meeting place, around a little corner, so it was barely visible unless you knew precisely where to look. A bell chimed the hour and as the third bell gonged Vylira disappeared and reappeared on the opposite side of the tree, leaning back with her arms crossed. "Just so you know the letters are hardly necessary. My repeat customers usually just find it easier to say my name and the meeting place into a flame. The more bashful ones just write it down and then thrown the paper in the fire." The involvement of fire was completely unnecessary, but it helped keep her methods a mystery. To most she was merely an extremely gifted Fox Minish, after all.

Patience was a virtue, many would say : the Re-dead would quite agree. Nothing was more patient then those that had died once already : for time was not precious to lumbering corpses. After all, they lurched and shuffled : took their sweet time to come towards their target. They were slow : but unstoppable in their own way, the representation of death's influence. It was always odd when one moved faster, hurried : but then again, Valdis was no typical undead. She knew that much : she had awareness and a presence of self that was more then odd to say the least, as that crimson gaze kept watching the crowd. Her very human movement made death that much more frightening, personal : she could meld with the humans, lurking, waiting. And then snatch one in the middle of the night : after all, death was not selective of who. There was a very sense of something coming, as it always was. Valdis felt her breath tighten very lightly as a voice spoke out, clear enough for her to hear. This earned a chuckle from the blonde, as her head leaned against the tree.
''Well, I still enjoyed writing the letter, regardless. It consumed an amount of time that I had nothing else to do with.'' spoke the zombie, still lounging against the tree : she was in no hurry to face the broker, should that need arise. It was a calm that eased over the being of the girl, as that gaze slipped to the blue sky, blood slipping in her veins. ''But it worked regardless : and I'm sure you enjoyed it.'' said the undead, as her body perched itself, not exactly lurching, but moving forward, blonde strands messily dancing in the wind. There was no reason to let her hot temper loose : after all, peace had been made mentally already, with the fact that this broker may try to dance around the topic, not committing to anything. ''As I am sure you know, my name is Valdis. My purpose in calling you out is simple.''
Her voice was toneless now, monotone and monochrome, a single flat note. It was a tone of business, the weight of death like the single absurdity that allowed itself in her voice. The woman felt her fingers uncurl, and her arms relax to her sides, instead of crossed like they were. This was the rocky part : now it was the time to see if it worked, as she waited for an answer, a confirmation. Just to assure herself that the other was still there, in tandem with the Re-dead, and not lost in some sort of translation.

Vylira smirked as Valdis spoke. "It worked, you can have that," she said simply and closed her eyes. "But there's less need for the secrecy of your letter, being unsure who will see it and all that. Words in the flames are wasted on no ears, or you can feed the paper to the fire and it's gone forever. You have all your privacy and whatever it is you want," she shrugged simply, rolling her shoulders back and pushing off the trunk of the tree with her shoulder blades.
She stepped around the tree to her client and smirked, looking her over with a coy eye. "My, such a wasted form, though I can see why. Much better in person, I have to say," she said, making no effort to hide her eyes as they sized the undead woman up. "In the center of society like this, in the epitome of civilization, certainly you have some kind of hunger. Don't you want to feast on these fine folk? Isn't that what you do?" she prodded with a whimsical grin.
"You'd rather talk business right now, though, so what do you intend to offer me as payment?" she said, her tone switching back to the matter at hand. "One like you doesn't bear much in terms of possessions, especially since you've spent a good part of your unlife as a servant. Of course you do have one handy little trinket I might be interested in. A ruby pendant can fetch quite a nice price on this market." She turned her back and looked around the little square they were in, letting her words sink in, before producing a piece of paper and holding it over her shoulders.
"I've already taken the liberty of assuming you're looking for your old identity and preparing a little sample to make sure you know I can fetch you what you want. Though the pendant would only buy you . . . a name. You'll need more to buy the rest of the information. The piece of paper has your date of birth, if you care to look," she cooed and flicked the paper into the air. "If you trust me, of course," she added flippantly.

Their conversation was interesting and of course, this one kept in tandem. That was perfectly fine, to the blonde haired re-dead : why? Because it was the nature of things, at least for one in a business such as she. Not a single beat was missing, even as the other tried to sell her point : evidently, fire was harmful to ones such as she. Stories of din's flames sweeping over her kind was very current in the monster world : although as a re-dead, it bothered her less then a Gibbo, let's say. It was still a nasty, thing fire. It cooked the meat, took all the blood out of it, make it less tasty as wel. So it wasn't groundless really. It was just an undead creature's hate for something so needlessly human, as only a chuckle was the other's reply.
But then they went face to face. That's when she knew this would be interesting, as the blonde's red eyes caught up on the girl's appearance. Her comments served no other purpose then to flatter her : it may be genuine, but the money was on not. Silver hair and blue green eyes : tempting flesh, probably soft. Though not as waxen and smooth as Valdis' would be, she could bet that much. ''Not particularly right now.'' she replied softly to the comment about hunger. After all, Valdis had already consumed enough to come here : hence the healthy lush of her skin, the pink that only appeared when substance was acquired. The very reason she looked alive was because of her preparations. So she was full, and then some : she would be fine for quite a while.
But fluttering distractions soon faded, as Valdis felt eager now. But she was still guarded : things always came at a price, and she knew that. An idling hand had risen up, curled itself around a silver strand, that red gaze almost glazed over in thought. As the woman claimed her beginning price, the idle finger stopped : her gaze suddenly sharpened, almost too clearly, the weight of death heavy behind those eyes, even as the pupil slitted near instantly. The other turned, just before those lips curled, the flash of fangs in the light. The finger dropped, the curl bouncing back of course. Valdis' head tipped so that her eyes were no longer visible, even as for a moment, fingers were no fingers but claws, long and sharp.
Why the pendant? And intended to sell it? Oh, Valdis could FEEL that rage enter her veins : she was almost Startled. But the Re-dead showed amazing control, for once in her life : pushing those feelings back, the blonde focused on the other. Her fingers slipped around the paper, and took it, knowing that this could bait her into something : the pendant was her only valuable, that she cared for really. And for good reason : it had been her master's gift, just before he died. So what other price could be taken from the undead? Hell, she had come in ready to be a servant. The fact she even considered parting with that pendant made her worry.
Flipping the paper over she saw the date. June 6th.
''Happy birthday!'' clamored strange voices, distorted and fuzzy. There were strange faces all around her, but the blonde just smiled and bowed. ''I must simply thank the Goddesses for letting me be born.'' she said very gently, even as the voices seemed to be smiling, approving. ''Even with a date like June 6th, bless their hearts, they must hold you in high value to have made you so pure and bright.'' spoke one of the voices. She smiled at them, a laugh in her throat : it was gentle and kind, even as her heart beat in her chest, blood in her veins.
With a blink, Valdis was back, as she crumpled the page in between her fingers. ''I see. And what would be the rest of the cost.'' she simply asked, neither confirming or denying the other's offer. But she had a strange sense of something off : Valdis shrugged it aside for now. She would reflect on it later, or perhaps just forget it : whatever the undead did in her spare time this week.

The keaton only grinned as she got the reaction she was looking for out of the undead woman. Vylira was no mind reader, so of course she wouldn't be able to garner exactly what the redead was thinking nor how she would initially react. Honestly Vylira was expecting her to lash out at the price, considering this one's history, but then people often surprised the keaton. She was a good read on people, but when someone was undead they became harder to see through. Especially since the blood running through her veins wasn't even her own. It was an interesting thought.
"It's a shame; I would like to watch the carnage," she mused with a little disappointment, though there was no telling whether it was real disappointment or just another one of her games was near impossible to discern. She watched the quiet reflection in her companion's eyes as she saw the date on the piece of paper. The date hadn't been that hard to track down. It was beyond her own knowledge banks, but there were many keaton who didn't offer their services like she did, but the comradeship keaton share made tracking down the information easy. Just a matter of asking.
"A name is a very powerful thing, I don't think you realize it." She smirked. "Knowing your name would help you track down more information on your own, which is why it's so expensive. It takes away an edge I have in knowing the rest, and could easily cost me the rest of the business. However if you want to neglect the name I can give you more information. Or we can set the price for the entire package right here and now, should you not wish to part with that pendant of yours," she mused quietly.
"I have an easy price in mind if you want everything, name included. It might take you some time to track down, so remember the methods I mentioned earlier. Talk into a flame and I can meet you anywhere within three days. Now, the price. All the information on your previous life accessible to you in the form of a single volume to reference as you please will cost you a sword. A very specific sword, owned by a Hylian Knight named Vanessa. She's not to be harmed in any permanent way, of course, or else the payment becomes null, and I will know if you harm her."

Valdis didn't make a sound at the so called disappointment. ''If you want carnage, simply visit me randomly.'' she said, her voice terse, taut. After all, randomly might allow this one to land whilst Valdis was feeding : and that was carnage if anything. Particularly when anger clouded her mind : the blood that wasn't her own stirred harder in her veins. But yet Valdis was strange : even though the girl could give her a name, it would mean giving up her pendant : which in fact, was the second name. To give up the symbol of her unlife, would be like forsaking it, seeking life that had been lost. No, Valdis held no regrets that she knew of : she held nothing to return to her old life. Even if she tried, she wouldn't fit in, she was almost sure of that. The undead's eyes switched from the glaze, to a liquid fire : blood as if it had been brought from hell itself.
And the secondary way of contract was set, as the undead's fingers slipped, fingers petting along the silver strands of her current company's head. Valdis wasn't quite normal : if she had the choice, she would eat females more then males. It was nature, or perhaps indication : the undead was never sure, as her fingers took the strands closer to her nose, letting the scent slip into her. The blonde haired woman let out a soft breath, letting tension slip from her body : but yet it still nestled there, the anger and rage at this woman daring to ask for her pendant, of all things. Again, her fingers slipped into long claws, almost brushing the neck, just there, almost easily snapped in half.
And the shark toothed smile flashed, as the tip of her right index finger pushed softly. ''Well. That sounds interesting.'' she said, voice thick with a sort of toneless growl. It was thick and it was heavy, as the undead pulled her hand away, tiny prick of blood on her finger. And with a lick it was gobbled up. ''Is there anything of my life that would help me with your price? If so, then I would love to learn it now.'' she said, pushing at the boundaries of their deal. Pushing the limits : how far would this one allow her to bend the lines? That made the ReDead wonder.

Vylira let the undead do her thing, not even wincing when the claw broke flesh. Vylira was a keaton, and keaton were notoriously hard to catch. Impossible, actually, but that's another issue. The fact that the redead girl got to taste her blood meant nothing, so Vylira let her do what she wanted. Part of her was even a little curious if this was a hint at bloodlust. Perhaps the taste of blood would set her off. Being at ground zero of a rage attack wouldn't be a problem, as Vylira could merely escape from the danger and watch from a rooftop or something, but she wanted to make sure it was the case before getting to safety.
But it wasn't the case. She sighed and shrugged. That was just an idle fancy, she didn't worry too much about it. Back to business at hand. The undead seemed hesitant about parting with the pendant, and didn't respond too much to Vylira's second offer. Strange. A whole tome with her life there and ready for her to look over whenever she wanted to and she didn't eagerly run off tracking down Vanessa. Strange indeed. Vylira tilted her head and smirked. The undead wanted to have some of her own fun, to poke and prod at the limitations of the deal to see how little she could get away with.
"Two deals are on the table for you to accept whenever you're willing. I'm not going to accept anything less for either of them. Your ruby pendant for your old name, or the sword of Vanessa Ferre for your entire life. Since you don't seem too eager about parting with that pendant, I guess you have one choice in the matter. Vanessa shouldn't be too far, though she likes to wander every now and then Castle Town is her home. And the sword's a bit hefty, so I'd have some place ready to stash it until you contact me," Vylira said flippantly, taking a step back.
"Or we could just part ways here and be done. Whether you get your information or not makes no difference to me, but I can assure you this is the more sure offer you'll ever have at finding it. Right now the call is yours, sweetie, and I'm sure the longer this conversation goes the more you'll digest. You have to feed sometime, right? Maybe if this draws on long enough I'll get to see you feast," she grinned and crossed her arms under her chest, waiting for Valdis to make up her mind.

But of course, Valdis' expert tongue encountered something unusual : a taste that was unique as it was new. It slipped in her tongue, bathing, dancing : it tasted so exotic it almost made her head spin. It seemed to twist and change it's shape : dancing on her tongue and yet almost missed. Such a taste : it was very well. If all fox Minish tasted like this, then Valdis definitely had to get her hands on some. The ReDead let the taste slide down her throat, as she listened to the one before her : and with an incline of her head, Valdis seemed to be thinking. And with a sort of snort, the undead smiled.
Tilting that blonde head, it was relatively easy : the other gave more then enough information : with a simple poke into the society, to see if anything changed, and then finally, that memory, gave her enough to go on with. ''Just a sword hm?'' she said, her fingers brushing her blonde strands behind a delicate looking ear, those crimson eyes still watching. Still slitted as well, as the undead seemed to consider the suggestion more. Time seemed to drift by, moment by moment, until finally the undead straightened herself fully, her eyes once more back to a regular human shape, but still that bright red. It was however just a flowing red, even as the undead felt something shift and burst.
''Very interesting.'' she said, before her lips curved into a smile. Perhaps Valdis had a sort of thing to do after all, as her blood was still boiling so hot. It was heating her, as the undead straightened. ''Fascinating even. I accept your deal, broker.'' she said, the flash of her fangs again slipping out of her. Even though she was full, her stomach rumbled : she wanted more, and the woman before her was tasty, to say the least. But the blonde walked to the other's side, standing there, shoulders almost touching : the ruby pendant still under her clothing, hidden from the world. It bothered the Redead that the other knew about it.
But Valdis would know more soon enough, as her head lightly turned. ''You better keep an eye out : maybe you will get something interesting.'' she said, before her steps began to float away. Unless she was called back by the other : she made sure to give plenty of time for the other to do so, and then follow her if needed : the hunt was on as she saw the swish of a cloak down an alleyway. Someone that wanted to slip notice? Valdis turned and gave chase, her locks of blonde flicking at that movement.
Hunger was never to be denied.

The broker nodded as Valdis accepted the offer. She knew the woman would, of course. All the information she would ever want on her former life available at her fingerprints and all she had to do was kidnap a sword. It was an irresistible deal for anyone. Especially for an undead girl with no real regard for human life, let alone possessions. Still, that ruby pendant would've been a nice bargaining chip. Nothing like having a wild savage undead girl's most treasured possession in your collection to bribe them with. It was a real shame, and Vylira briefly considered pulling a similar stunt and getting someone to kidnap Valdis' pendant. But that would be foolhardy. You never worked on too many mind games at any one point less they get mixed up and become too much to handle. Especially since she was sending the undead off in search of her latest project. No doubt the confrontation would be interesting; Valdis wouldn't get Claymore with stealth but if she appealed to the Knight's stubborn sense of dignity and honor . . . "I'll have my side of the bargain ready within a day for whenever you manage to procure yours. Just say may name into a flame and all that. Also, as a bit of free advice, don't mention my name to Vanessa or things might turn a little sour. The less you know about that the better for you, I can assure you. Until you're ready, I look forward to our next meet. Oh, and remember, if you fail you can always trade that pendant in for a name," she added as a final note, enjoying the sense of unnerving someone with how much she knew. With a little wave she turned and walked away from the Redead, as the deal was clearly established and there was no point in prolonging the meeting. As she passed into the crowd she quickly disappeared from view, teleporting off to enjoy a freshly brewed cup of coffee at her favorite cafe. [EXIT]

It was almost like there was something there, as the blonde just smiled to herself, her shoulders shifting softly, blonde hair feathering around with each movement. The other seemed to give last pieces of advice, as those slitted red eyes just kept shining. With a wave, the other was off : Valdis stayed her movements for a few, before continuing on her way. Her limbs quickly took her down that alleyway, chasing after the whisper of a cloak. It was gratis, and this was certainly going to be something unique. But in the end, it was a productive day, as the ReDead thought on how to get things rolling... this most interesting factor, as those red eyes flashed, and her claws lengthened.
