There was a disturbance in the area : then again, the presence of a undead thing always disturbed the area, no matter where. Even complete solitude was disturbed by the unnatural life that animated such creatures : a light shamble, the almost dead look of the eyes. Re-deads were easily the most unnatural : in most cases, they were mere shells of a body that once was, mindlessly consumed in the fanatical race to consume flesh, to end all life on the earth. Or sexually molest their faces : she had seen some quite disturbing sides of her fellow undead. That was a pity, but yet it suited Valdis just fine : she was better off and thus had no pity rope to grudge.
The long claws flexed, their very existence perturbing : the smile that formed across her undead lips was most strange. There was life : with a flash, her fingers dug out an innocent fish, that dark smile growing, as with a gobble, the creature crunched, and slid down her throat. Satisfied, the creature ambled to it's feet : but yet it held a craving, as almost like a child's amusement, it hopped across floating ice caps. With each hop, the blonde haired creature got further and further away : there was a warmth, right under here : it called to her, almost thirstily. After all, she was quite starved : that made her instincts more prevalent, and easily able to take charge. That was all thoughts, as the protagonist of our little adventure dug her tender looking arm, equipped with those monstrous claws, shoulder deep in the ice cold water.
Said protagonist is named Valdis : soft, lightly pale skin, feathery blonde hair, and a face that was sweet in nature, not many could say that she was an ugly undead. Much less, many have described the slightly buxom creature ''bangable'' by acceptable standards. That unfortunately, accidentally increased the amount of necrophiliacs, but that's fodder for the side. The reason Valdis was out here was because, frankly, she was hungry and didn't want to work too hard for a meal. After all, most sentient beings were hard to catch, and had some form of fighting ability. Therefore, it was a work out : one she didn't want to go through.
With a powerful yank, the lithe looking female managed to pull out a seal, her shark teeth grinning. Those white teeth were definitely belonging to a meat eater : sharp in all points, no pun intended, those fangs were ready to rip into the succulent flesh of the seal. Picking the thrashing animal up, the undead daintily walked back to shore : admittedly, noticing a strange shape in the light mist of the morning. With a sniff, it was ascertained that the shape was sentient, and no animalistic : and it bothered Valdis, as the seal was held by it's neck, thrashing under the weight of Valdis' body, and the claws that slowly dug into that tender spot.
Normally she would call for the stranger, but curiosity had peeked : staying tranquil was the best way to go, just to see what fortune would give the undead. She was quite eager of course : that's why she narrowed her eyes, the Re-dead waiting for a possible victim.

Panoramic view. Look, I'll make it all manageable. The only reason Alarice is here is so she can test her tolerance for the cold. She was only used to hot or warm temperatures, maybe a coolness in certain season or time of day. She expected she might have to be defending herself, as she wasn't familiar with the peak province. She knew she was naive to the beasts around here and just how bad the snow could get, it was perhaps the daredevil that she could be that pushed her to come here.
She had geared up, bringing her own ear muffs and a Parka Coat; she also had pants and snow boots... and gloves, of course. Her outfit was mostly a light tan with white outline, she was pretty well inside her oven of clothing. She decided "why not?" on bringing both Pandora's War hammer and her Celestial War Axe, both of them over her shoulder (it was most comfortable this way). Actually, she knew one reason, but she didn't care. She had an attachment to her weapons, she totally wasn't about to lose them in the snow.
First off, she didn't care much for snow. At all. Rain was just fine with a lukewarm or warmer temperature, but snow... not fine with it. Alarice knew she wasn't a snow person even before she came here. She'd stay here at the shore of the frozen lake for an hour, so she had time to think.
Well, that WAS the plan. She took note of the beige silhouette in the atmosphere of the misty ice. She couldn't make out any distinct shape from it, only that it was of a humanoid creature; probably human. Really, other people shouldn't be out here. Not even herself, Alarice was just willingly reckless, life is more fun that way. She approached, perhaps her giant weapons could cleave apart a viscous yeti, or scare a traveler just as naive as her into going back.
"HEY! I HOPE YOU REALIZE IT'S KIND OF COLD OUT HERE."
Her tone was loud, but it was more of a friendly and sarcastic expression. Perhaps sounding more aggressive and arrogant would've made her point come across for effectively, but she got to thinking... Maybe this silhouette had purely evil intentions.
Good think I brought BOTH weapons along with me...

Well it was sentient : it even yelled at her, that presence did. Soon enough, the person was much, much closer : she could see the shape of well, a child. Valdis smirked, as she waved, her long claws looking like long fingers. With a yank, she dragged the seal with her, making her way in light, dancing steps across the snow. Perhaps she was a silly fuddy, but to be completely honest, the cold didn't seem to bother her. Maybe it's because she was dead, re-animated, and then had a lack of core temperature. Just maybe, as she arrived right near the girl, deal seal at her side. The Re-dead grinned at the girl, those meat cleaver of teeth just there, out in the wide open. Of course, Valdis noticed the hammer and the ax : but it didn't bother her. After all, she wasn't going to eat the poor girl.
''It doesn't bother me.'' she replied to the girl finally, as her clawed hand patted the girl on the top of her head. ''However, it certainly does to you : all that makes you slow, sluggish. I bet you like warmer climates.'' the woman said, not even bothering with introductions, as she waved around the ice field. ''Although, you're lucky that I found a cabin near by.'' spoke the undead, definitely not mentioning that the previous inhabitants of the cabin, had been eaten by her. Nope. And it wasn't even today : it was about a month or two ago. Then again, the sick elderly couple had done nothing wrong : they wanted to die before their illnesses took them. Diseased meat didn't taste good raw : it was one of the few times that Valdis cooked her meat. Namely boiled it. The bones had been buried over, in some respectful manner : how she knew to bury and say a prayer for the dead, the Redead wouldn't know.
''Well, more like it's mine.'' she said, laughing slightly. Considering that story, it was surprising she had forgotten that she owned it, sorta. More like no one wanted to go to that cabin, because they heard that the couple died. But whatever. Valdis winked at the girl, and began to drag the seal away, leaving a trail of body shaped in the snow. ''Well if you're coming, either hop on the fuck or keep up.'' said the woman cajoling over her shoulder. The undead was in a good mood : relatively fed, and well, it was such a nice cold day. Why be anti-social? Anger and hate had to sleep sometime.

Panoramic view. Look, I'll make it all manageable. All Alarice did was look at her with a look of disapproval at Valdis as she made small talk with her about the cold. What got to her most, though, was that she treated her like a child. Alarice didn't consider herself a child anymore, and since she was agitated by a lot of things, this made her a little angry. Her appearance intrigued her more than her personality at the moment, though. She looked pretty... dead. It made her wonder what kind of diet she had, besides raw meat. Vegetables, Fruit, Grains and Dairy are pretty important too, so Alarice came to two conclusions. Either she was insane, or a monster. Both ideas sounded bad to her; if she was insane she was probably setting up an ambush. If she was a monster, then she was probably still setting up an ambush. However, she being dead didn't cross her because of her naivety to ReDeads (the only undead she really knew about were Poes and skeletals).
"Nice try, but I'm not going to be your dessert." |
Of course Alarice thought those razor sharp teeth weren't satisfied just yet. She lifted her axe up above her head, letting it fall forward and drop onto the snow below. The snow wasn't so compact, so the blade of her Celestial Axe passed through the snow and stuck into the ground at an angle that made it a lean vertical; slanted. She gripped the large hammer that stayed in her hand even tighter.
She knew what next to say, and was about to say it, but her having a dead seal with her intrigued her even more. At least she though that carnivores like her don't naturally live here, so she must be pretty smart. Who else could have been in her party, awaiting her and the prey at the cabin? Alarice hadn't ever seen her before, so she figured that her family must be reclusive to the peak province. Then she wondered how raw seal might taste. Probably not very good, probably good cooked though. With all the rambling as she debated with herself, she forgot what she was going to say. She could care less about the claws, too. As it appeared that she wasn't of a race she was familiar with, she assumed that she was just doing her part in life and helping her group. Still, though, she was ready to fight as best as she could out in the cold if Valdis tried something. Or she could've just left, Alarice wasn't quite sure what her reaction would be.

When the girl said something, Valdis stopped, and turned her red eyes towards her. Slowly, but her shoulders heaved, and then suddenly, the undead laughed. ''Oh dear! You thought I was going to EAT you? What are you, crazy? You're too scrawny for me : I like in volume and in bulk, you see. If I were to want to chase down some obviously hardy adventurer, like yourself.'' said the undead, her red eyes almost sparkling with a sort of amusement, as the smiling fangs flashed. ''And I'm sure it's crossed your mind : I work alone. Since others would just.. slow me down.'' said the Redead, shaking her head. She didn't say it, but it was obvious in some of her statements : if she had wanted to head the girl, there wouldn't be hesitations, nor ambushes. That much was obvious by the seal that the undead was dragging around of course.
The blonde haired undead simply smiled again. ''Like I said, you're welcome to share my cabin and leave whenever you like.'' said the undead, before shrugging and walking away again. The undead was even humming a tune. She had promised the more then likely tired of snow and cold girl a warm place to rest, out of the snow and everything else, and probably defensible against monsters. Even against Valdis : not that she would eat the girl. Naw, she was having too much fun : the seal would be so delicious : it was like seafood. Which it was, in the strangest way : and that always made Valdis giddy, since she loved food from the sea. That meant fish and red meat from the seas were her best meals : which many would think weird, since she was undead.
But goddamn it, that protein was the best, apart from some sentient being.. and that she had to be careful with. After all : people disappearing got attention.. and the Redead didn't need any of that.

Panoramic view. Look, I'll make it all manageable. Scrawny. Scrawny... Alarice mumbled to herself. "So you think I'm scrawny, do you?" |
This was certainly to her, unacceptable. Arrogance got to her, and even if she didn't mean offense... Alarice was offended. She picked her axe back up, she lifted it up a few feet above the snowy ground and walked towards Valdis. She stared daggers at her. "State your name and rank."She kept after her, but would be ceasing to a stop a few yards away from her if she stopped. "Alarice Scarborough."There was a well enough chance that Valdis wouldn't introduce herself so she thought that maybe it would have been better to wait for her to reply. Oh well? "If I win, I can't guarantee you won't be obliterated. And if you win...?" Conditions for the loser made dueling more interesting for Alarice. No, she really wasn't going to off Valdis if she won. She was hot-blooded and combative, but still had mercy. She expected something like "I get to eat you!" or "Come live with me in my shack forever as my servant!" Valdis made gave off an evil impression, but whether or not she was actually as evil as she thought Alarice didn't know fully. "I'll show you just how scrawny I am." She lifted her axe up and brought it down again, so it stuck into the ground a second time, and gripped her hammer with both hands. Her clothes weren't actually all that heavy, really; she would probably have a cold when she returned to warmer climates. Or would she return at all? Again, Valdis had to stop : okay this was getting annoying. The little girl was evidently taking offense to the ReDead's comments, and as much as Valdis was happy and content, and not wanting to tear something apart, this one was intend in any way possible, to thwart possible happiness and mess with her. ''Well well.'' said Valdis plainly, as she grinned, her fangs flashing at the girl. The child lifted the ax : not that the undead cared. If this child wanted to try and attack her, the monster had no problems defending herself. ''Valdis.'' she simply said, as the child seemed to set their contest. With another smirk, Valdis just smiled at the girl.
''I will set the condition if I win.'' she simply said, those red eyes sparkling. The girl knew that there wasn't much to fight with : first the other was unused to this terrain : as a wanderer and the owner of the cabin, Valdis was already at an advantage. Of course, ice on the pond would be weak in structure in some spots. That ax looked heavy, to say the least : the Redead was also immune to the cold, unlike the warm blood of the person before her. Therefore, as long as she kept her distance, and outlasted the girl or outsmarted her, it was an easy game, as Valdis grinned. ''On your mark.'' she said, dropping the seal to the side, and already pushing herself backwards, going on an angle. She was going to circle around the girl, to head towards the pond.
Because that's where all of the fun would be.

Panoramic view. Look, I'll make it all manageable. Alarice stood on the same spot, awaiting her advance, but she didn't get close to her, instead she went around her towards the frozen pond. She took her axe again and followed her with a content walking pace. She could break the ice, most likely too easily... so she didn't step on the ice, and instead smashed the ice that was in her reach, bringing her hammer down on it. Shrapnel didn't prove to be a problem and the water was only a few inches deep, as it was the rim of the pond. Clearly fighting on frozen water was a bad idea, that would have so painfully been her trump card; Alarice just waited there for her, putting her axe back down, stuck in the ground in the same fashion that she had used the last time she stuck it in the ground.
She took the brief moment of a stalemate to think about what to do about her chosen battleground, but instead found herself thinking about that strange name; Valdis... Not that her name represented her actual personality, but to her it was... so ugly. Her plan was in her head now, she couldn't use the climate against her, so she'd just have to outfight her. Still, fighting on the pond was a no-go, so she stepped back and watched her on the frozen pond. It was way too reckless, to her it was reckless for the both of them; while she could figure that Valdis was cold-resistant, she didn't know she negated the cold completely because she was dead.

Well, well : Alarice had decided not to take Valdis' bait. That easily made things so much more interesting. She wasn't directly a distance fighter : but such things could be easily arranged. The pond already had places broken, floating : it would easy to start playing baseball. The magic speeding through her veins, the undead simply grabbed one such thing, and picked it up with one hand. With a measured look, the ReDead chucked the entire thing at Alarice. The formerly floating ice cube was easy 7x7 feet : and in conclusion, it was damn heavy. And what goes up must come down. That was a simple, easy process. Although, Valdis had done this chain of actions within a few moments : it was just slower to her, because of the magic. But the ice cube bearing down on Alarice, Valdis sped off.
Right under it's shadow, her claws extended. In so far, she wouldn't use her scream : but if it became necessary.. then she wouldn't hold back. After all, the Redead had honor. Due to her ability, she was easily faster then she had been. Oh but she rambled in her own thoughts : what was important was that not only a big chunk of ice was falling rapidly at the girl, but there was a grinning attacker too. Valdis was charging, perhaps : but she was already ready for counter attacks. Be prepared.. even if you are undead.
That was always sound advice.
[245] -- Short~ But fights are like that. XD Let me know of awkwardness. Using the following~
Monster Show Valdis is a monster : although very humanoid, it is quite a strange thing, a monster. Valdis, as an undead, has gone through the barrier of life, rested, and been brought back. This greatly angered her : but the one that brought her back had been gracious enough to give her an ability, beyond her natural own. That is, the ability to modify her body, enhance it and even add things to herself.
Level 1 - Enhancement only : two times the level of her natural attributes. |

Panoramic view. Look, I'll make it all manageable. A big chuck of ice was headed her way, and so was the one who threw it. She had two weapons, and without enough time to think, she made an audacious decision: Throw her axe. Alarice took her axe, AGAIN, and threw it across the choke point. It spun, and it came at her like a hatchet you would throw, only it was bigger. Don't let bigger fool you into thinking it was slower, though, it's momentum came from Alarice and not itself. That left the ice, it came at her in the same speed of Valdis, so she only had room for one more action. She wasn't fast enough to dodge it by now, likely because she wasn't made for nimble and quickness.
So she punched it... wait, seriously? She put forth all the strength she could muster with her adrenaline and rammed her fist against it. It did hurt her hand, but that block was decimated. While the ice didn't break or fracture her hands, her brain did a good job of letting her know YOUR HAND FREAKING HURTS NOW. And it did hurt already; this was a reckless style, of course, but she refused to show any signs of pain, and kept herself in a deadpan expression as she gripped her hammer with both hands, she was half-expecting the axe to have cut into Valdis and ruined her, and also half-expecting Valdis to have successfully dodged it and the axe to be stuck in the ice. Now that she was done punching a large cube of ice, she realized that her weapon was on the ice now... While punching ice that was hurled at you isn't a good idea, she was at a disadvantage with time, so she took some damage. At least turning a 7 x 7 cube into 7 1 x 1 chunks must have looked awesome (even though it really isn't a good idea).

And of course, Valdis felt more then happy, when the girl decided to fight. Hell, that show of strength excited the ReDead even further. A soft sound escaped her throat, even as the whick of the ax sliced the air : the zombie was in motion, and really, wanted to have fun. With a slide, letting the ice and lack of traction spur her away, the undead grabbed the back of the ax, wrenched with the momentum of course, before she spun in a circle due to the navel jerking feeling of pinwheeling with an ax. That gave more then enough time for the girl to punch the ice into shards, beautifully. It was decided, then and there, what Valdis wanted.
With a twist, the spin had brought the zombie closer : and now added more movement to her manic swinging. It was a whirlwind, as Valdis just let herself spin closer and closer : now she was the weapon herself. And the more the girl exerted herself, the more exhausted that flesh and blood would be : and thus the weaker she would become, as the ReDead was just dead. So being dead had no need for heat. So it was easy for her to straggle it out. But she kept things cool : for now at least. Let's see what this girl had in store, shan't we?

Panoramic view. Look, I'll make it all manageable. As she half-expected, her attack didn't win the fight. She actually caught the axe too, Murphy's Law was quite fond of Alarice today, it seems. She has the axe, Alarice has the hammer... But it didn't look like Valdis was very good at handling two-handed weapons. It didn't look like she could stop the whirlwind, nor did she want to. Since the slice of her spin was horizontal, Alarice knew very well the best way to go: a cross-counter.
She ducked below the axe's chopping point, and swung her hammer at Valdis. What she was trying to do was smack her weapon into her legs, if it hit her then it was highly likely to dissipate or remove her offense and possibly get Alarice her axe back too. She thought it would work because, with all that spinning, it would be hard to dodge, or even stop at that matter.
As far as Alarice considered it, Valdis was going to kill her if she won. She suspected her to feel the same way about her too.

A smart move : but Valdis wasn't really relying on the ax for an attack. During her turn, the last she faced away from her opponent before the hammer would reach her, the undead released the ax, sending it sailing off into - well into god knows where. Valdis would feel bad later : she'd find that ax for the girl, but right now there were more pressing matters, as the undead pressed a leg up on her body : the hammer smashed into her leg, as the undead felt the bone possibly break : it definitely hurt, as the undead quickly put down her other leg, away from the hammer. In a way, she shifted her balance, allowing the hammer to continue : it's strike had basically stopped her spinning, but her other leg allowed her to remain, instead of falling over. It was a taxing exercise, but it was manageable.
That's when Valdis' arms snapped out. Her arms went past the other, and curled up behind her. The undead was attemtping to scoop up the girl in a hug : a nice, happy hug. Or something of the like. ''My Alarice, that was certainly genius : I'm glad that we fought for a little, but at this rate, you're going to tire too much. My condition is simple : if I win, you come with me to my cabin, to eat dinner and spend the night.'' said the ReDead : fascinating as that fact was, a sentient-eater that didn't want to eat someone, there was still the possibility.
But Valdis knew better, as that was their condition : it did not imply eating, but rather safety, and thus, like a snare, Valdis' honor was her bond. ''You can also make me promise anything that will make you feel safe. After all, once a promise, always a promise.'' she said softly, before releasing the girl, and stepping back, a flashing smile on her face. Friendly, even though a few seconds earlier, it would have been so easy to kill her : but to Valdis, that was past, and there was future.
After all, if she tore up each time she nearly killed something, she'd never get anything done.

Panoramic view. Look, I'll make it all manageable. In the heat of a fight, most people probably wouldn't think about hugging, or some other act that would be certainly odd in a fight. Her axe went sailing away in the frosty sky; it was probably not going to be hard to find it again because it was stuck in the frozen lake. You could still see it off in the small distance anyways, but Alarice didn't bother to notice where her axe went yet.
Valdis had... hugged her, or something like that. Alarice expected her to try and harm her; so she let go of her hammer and was a second away from trying to wrestle, bend and pummel Valdis into a pulp before she could make the first attack... but she spoke instead. Talking isn't really something you do in a fight. Alarice chose to listen.
''My Alarice, that was certainly genius : I'm glad that we fought for a little, but at this rate, you're going to tire too much. My condition is simple : if I win, you come with me to my cabin, to eat dinner and spend the night.''
To Alarice, she was a little outlandish for a monster. She spoke like she thought she had won already, but to Alarice sharp teeth didn't always beat a sublime fist-to-the-face. She never took a shot or tried anything though, this was a time for talking and not continuing beating each other to meat sponge.
''You can also make me promise anything that will make you feel safe. After all, once a promise, always a promise.''
Well, not eating her was obvious and she chose not to state what was already implied. Looks to be no more point in fighting, she already vented out enough anger by punching a block of ice, so...
"Go get me my axe. Then I'll agree to your conditions and do as I promised."
Dinner... well, hopefully it would be cooked.

[atrb=style, background-image: url(http://i1211.photobucket.com/albums/cc425/SoSGal/Graphs/ValdisBack.jpg); height: 500px; width: 300px; ] ''Tales of within the Ice''
Alarice was obviously still suspicious of Valdis : as much as the undead liked the fight, she was still kind of concerned for the human : she had punched a block of ice yes, but how much had she suffered from doing so? Valdis had honor still : there was a kindness that had once existed. With a light squeeze, the Re-dead grinned at the girl, and winked. ''That's all? I thought you'dve asked me not to eat you. Which I won't, by the way : there's a reason I was hunting out here.'' she said, letting another giggle out, before her steps bounded away : not a single whit affected by the cold, even with her.. almost lack of clothing. Each step was quick and fast, as the ax seemed to be in a patchy part of the lake. But again, it didn't phase the Re-Dead : wrapping her hand around her hilt, she jerked : in which case, the ice cracked.
With a snap, the woman was gone in the water, with the ax. Now most people would let go of the ax, and swim up, as the ice seemed to be reforming so fast that it shouldn't be fair. But again, Valdis wasn't most people : she calmly walked the bottom of the lake, catching a few fish whilst she was at it, and nabbing herself another seal. They were tasty creatures, she swore. And arriving at the shore, without much of a hesitance, the Redead slammed the ax in the shore wall, and shifted the seal and fishes in her grip, placing them under her clothes, holding them with one arm. Then she placed the ax in her teeth : considering she was underwater, this was a lot more plausible : but thank goodness the magic was still in her veins, as she began to swim up, using her clawed hand to scratch at the shore to push her up.
With a drop, the ax was in her hand, and hurled violently against the ice, cracking it. Sliding the ax out, the woman's hand, clawed and red, tore more ice, as she lifted herself up with her prizes, rolling onto the shore, uncaring that the ax just sliced a bit of her arm. Taking the ax, she walked back towards the waiting human, did a hard movement to take the water off, as it started freezing, and gave the girl the ax. ''We can dry it at the cabin. I trust this was satisfying to your conditions?'' she said. She was aware she would seem more of a monster to the human, as she grabbed the other seal, and smiled, almost light now.
After all, it was pretty damn obvious that if she wanted to eat Alarice, she wouldn't do such a long wait. It would defy common sense. At least, to a brainless flesh eating monster : Valdis didn't feel like human flesh right now anyways. So why bother? She just wanted some company, for a little bit. Was that so bad? The Redead didn't think so.
