APPEARANCE,Ayara isn‘t an ordinary girl. At all. In fact she‘s so far from ordinary she‘s circled around to it from the other side. Whenever ordinary turns its head she‘s just kinda standing there and it screams and runs away. Ordinary wants nothing to do with Ayara. Her skin is corpse-y and grey, he sclera of her eyes are liver-failure yellow. Severe aniridia means there’s no distinction between her pupils and irises, leaving dark, faded-blue pools. Severe pupula duplex (more correctly referred to as pupula octuplex, given the circumstances) has left her left eye with eight distinct pupils. Her fingernails are thick, black and end in sharp points, and growing from her head you’ll find a pair of orange-yellow horns, one ending in a wicked-sharp hook, and the other in a vicious half-moon pincer. Her teeth all end in sharp points, with her upper canines so pronounced you could almost be surprised she can close her mouth properly at all.
As for more generic stats, Ayara stands at about five feet three inches. Her hair is a long and tangled black mess that goes all the way down to her lower back. She owns a pair of thick spectacles with the left lens replaced by black leather. Ayara’s left arm is a prosthetic, forged out of lightweight steel and made to resemble segmented carapace. Ayara wears gloves at all times. [image]
W8PONS,That prosthetic arm packs a hell of a punch. Also a cane, for navigation and support.
ITEMS,N/A
A8ILITIES,GOSSAMER
Ayara is capable of generating magic spidersilk from her fingertips. She can use it to make webs and stuff. Just webs, though. Any sort of spiderman (spiderwoman?) shenanigans are out of the question. Ayara can shoot these webs to immobilize a target for two posts. The target cannot move, but can still attack and defend, though their capabilities in both areas are significantly reduced. Two post cooldown.
R8CIAL A8ILITIES,
SKULLTULA
Ayara is predominantly a Skulltula. She is completely blind in bright light, slightly less so in darkness, and has a horrible sense of balance without a visual frame of reference.
Venomous: Ayara has venom glands in her mouth and under her fingernails that produce a potent necrotoxin. Her saliva alone will cause severe rashing and blistering. A scratch of her fingernails will after one post cause intense pain, swelling and inflammation, severely reducing an enemy’s combat capabilities and eventually causing necrosis to set in. A bite will have the same effect, but intensified.
Spiderform: Ayara can turn into a huge-ass spider and back. She can’t talk while in this form. Spiderform takes up a lot of energy, leaving her constantly hungry.
HISTORY,
Once upon a time there was a woman. This woman lived on a small farm in the forest. She was alone. Content, but alone.
Also once upon a time—the same time, in fact—there was a man. This man had been wandering for quite some time, his skill with a blade and all his heroic achievements having made his name famous throughout the land. He had fame and fortune and lacked nothing. But it was lonely at the top.
They were made for each other. They met, they fell in love, they married, and she took his last name for her own: Orin. They were a happy, stable, wonderful family. It wasn’t long until they had a daughter, which they named Ayara.
Ayara ruined everything.
It wasn’t immediately obvious, but Ayara wasn’t normal. She was constantly tired during the day only to be filled with energy come nightfall. Her mother did her best to try and keep Ayara on a diurnal sleep schedule, but it never seemed to stick. She liked warm, dark places and was sensitive to bright light. Other than that, she was a normal kid, really. She never understood why her mother kept insisting that she stay out in the sunlight as much as possible, even if it hurt her eyes.
Her eyes were the first major sign. Ayara had almost turned seven when she seemed to develop a potent allergy. Her eyes burned and itched incessantly no matter how much she rubbed them, and it only got worse if she was exposed to any source of light. So she was allowed to keep to her room, blocking off every window and rarely emerging for eighteen days. She would have stayed in there longer, but her mother had had enough and dragged her out into the light, forcing her eyes open. Ayara recoiled, crying out in agony for the few seconds her eyes were exposed to the sun. Where her eyes had once been crystal-clear and wonderfully blue, there was now no discernible iris or pupil, only a pale blue circle surrounded by yellow sclera, as if her eyes were dead and rotting. Her left eye had become a repulsive mess of eight pupils.
Sobbing, Ayara tore herself away from her shocked mother and ran back to her room, crawling under her bed where she’d built a nest of blankets and pillows to hide from the sun. She stayed there for days, ignoring her parents’ pleas that she resurface. Healers were brought in, but they could find nothing wrong with her. It was a hard time for her mother, declaring each healer incompetent, having increasingly loud arguments with her husband.
And then there was a full day of complete silence in the house. For the first time in a long time, Ayara managed to get a full day’s sleep, meaning she was actually fairly rested when her father came for her in the night. As they packed some of her things, he tried to explain to her that it wasn’t good for her mother that they stay there much longer. Of course, Ayara had been privy to their discussion for days now, listening in when the blinding headaches and debilitating stomach cramps weren’t too bad.
So they hit the road. And that’s where Ayara grew up. She tried to run away several times, never getting very far before her father found her. It wasn’t long until running away ceased to be an option. With her grey skin and yellowed eyes she looked very much like a walking, talking corpse. Her horns were the next surprise in store for them, stretching the skin of her head into an unnatural shape until it finally tore, pierced by the wicked growing hook and half-moon. Her fingernails thickened, blackened and grew into claws so sharp she was perpetually cutting and scratching things, even herself.
It was around the time her teeth fell out that she honestly believed she was going to die. Hoped she was going to die, even. Her mouth and throat burned and swelled up until she could barely breathe or talk, and her latest accident, a long scratch down her upper left arm, became equally inflamed. Soon, necrosis set in. Rotting flesh and constant illness and the sweet smell of gangrene on her breath as her teeth were replaced by a new set of gleaming, sharp fangs. Thanks to her father’s intervention, Ayara survived long enough for her body to develop immunity to this new poison, but not before her arm was too rotten to be saved. It had to be amputated and was replaced by a metal prosthetic.
Currently she and Rwaht are constant travelers, having settled into something resembling normalcy now that her body seems to have stopped changing.
EXTRAS,
Ayara’s eyes glow faintly in the dark, and her blood is blue. I’m dropping Din and replacing her with Ayara.
