The Twilight Realm always had a serene feel to it, one of quiet, and one of calm. But today, it had a different air to it, one of sadness, one of mourning. The realm had been turned upside down, and all by such a simple thing. It was kind of odd that for even just a little bit, the realm could shut down just by the events concerning one man.
It had been four days. Four days since the Twilight King collapsed due to an illness. Something had gone wrong with him, and it was clear that his reign was almost at an end. The King was on his deathbed, literally, and most figured that despite days of fighting, he wouldn't make it through the night. The idea of losing their beloved King proved painful for the Twili to bear.
Slowly, a mass congregated outside the castle, with many flooding inside to get a look at their dying king. The king himself had only two constant companions; his children.
However, just a few meters away stood a peculiar visitor, one not from this world, though he might have looked it. However, rather than the mournful look of the rest, he had on his features one of confusion. "This is ridiculous. He should have dropped days ago." The shade thought to himself, trying to figure out what kept this man's resilience so high, and how he was able to keep going despite all odds.
"That poison was enough to kill a guy thirty times over. And I don't mean your average, scrawny nobody, I mean an eight foot tall monkey with biceps bigger than my waistline." He looked to his right, to see a massive Twili, though his biceps weren't that large. "No offense." He mentally finished off. "Oh well, if he's on his deathbed, he won't last much longer." This caused a realization in the shade, the king had yet to choose a successor! He had two children, but only one could take the throne. That caused the shadow to bite his bottom lip slightly, a bit worried about who the king would choose. The fact that he couldn't see over the heads of the Twili didn't help his situation any. He couldn't hear over the mourning, and he couldn't even see what was going on. He'd have to get help. He again looked at his right, at the large Twili beside him. "Hey, big guy, think you can give me a view?"The larger one looked at him, raising an eyebrow. It was quite an odd request for someone to make, especially in such a somber mood. "You wish to see the king die?""I want to see who he chooses as his successor."At first there was silence, and the shade simply thought that it wouldn't happen, when he felt a strong grip on his back. Dark Link looked behind him as he saw the larger Twili's hand gripping the back of his shirt. lifting him into the air. "Hey, what're--" He looked forward, noticing that he could see above the heads of those before him. "Oh, I see. Thanks." The shade nodded, and looked onward to see the drama unfold~[/blockquote]

They say that changes happen for the better. Whoever came up with that ridiculous saying had one morbid sense of humor. If change meant having to watch the king of the Twilight Realm draw his last breath then she wanted the sands of time to reverse it's flow. Only the deities knew the extent of her fervent desire, of how much she want the clock reverse, and just let everything be the same as it was before.
Nothing had to change, let it all be the same, docile, and peaceful as it had been for many, many years. So long as it meant that he didn't have to die. To Midna, it was far too soon to be saying goodbye.
Everyone knew that the inevitable was coming, and gathered at the palace to pay their respects to their benevolent king. The princess's stomach churned at the thought of his death being observed by so many people. Wasn't it enough to just let him be with his family? Did the entire Twilight Realm have to add salt to the wounds watching her heart break right in front of her dying father? It took a lot of restraint within her very being not to order the twili to leave. There was no room for selfishness - let alone air to breathe within the waves of sorrow drowning her form.
The loss was far too much to bare.
Yet there she stood by his side. Not once did she leave it. All she could do was stay calm, and quiet. What was going inside of her head, you might ask? It was nothing but endless rain pouring down upon her world, and flooding it completely to the brim. The air was gone, and she was suffocating slowly from what felt like needles pricking at her chest. All that she could think of at the moment was why. Why did this have to happen? He didn't deserve this fate.

The shade brought up a finger to scratch his cheek. The Twilight King's kids were tough as balls, that much he knew. They wouldn't be showing any weaknesses, which could be seen as somewhat odd. While the future leader of the Twili needed to be strong and unbreakable, the exception could usually be made for watching your pop die. He found it somewhat interesting, they didn't break the one time they could and they broke the times they couldn't.
He continued to watch as the ailing King apparently began to speak. He could see Zant, the other child, leaning in closely, as if expecting something. Rather than getting something for him though, the king weakly motioned to Midna. For a moment, the whole thing went silent. The crowds quieted. It was clear what was going on; Midna was being named as his successor, Zant was being stood up. Dark Link couldn't help but await the following event with glee. He had been in the Twilight Realm long enough to hear about Zant, so he knew this was going to be good.
And he was right, immediately, Zant rose from his seat. His arms flailed about as he started to scream at the King. The shade tried to make out what the other child was saying, but the best he could determine it to be was just a bunch of incoherent gibberish. It seemed that Zant hadn't really been shouting threats so much as he had just devolved into screaming a bunch of angrish at the one he called father. And on his deathbed no less~ Ooh scandal~
A few Twili in the crowd gasped, but there was no real reaction from the majority. It was a bad sign for you when people weren't even taking your childish outbursts seriously. Instead, two messengers arrived, and gripping the flailing Zant by the arms, escorted him through the waves of Twili, right past the shade and the large Twili holding him up. Rather than an exiting threat, Zant just made one more wordless scream back at his family. "I'm pretty sure he chose Midna." The shade dryly thought to himself, satisfied with his own brand of humor.
He felt his feet touch the ground again. Apparently the large Twili was done holding him. That's fine, he saw who the successor was. And he figured how the King would go right now; quietly with dignity. The shade was already brainstorming on how to work with this. This situation was definitely something he could use. All he needed to do was wait for the King to die. [/blockquote]

Midna quietly watched as her father's breathing grew slower, and shallow by the seconds the passed on by. She could have sworn that her blood was quickly freezing over with the amount of sorrow encompassing her elegant frame. However she had to remind herself she had no room to be selfish. Never in front of the people that were watching, and taking note of her actions each step of the way. With unnerving patience, she waited for the king to give his last decree, keeping perfect silence unless directed to speak.
Her deep carmine eyes flickered up when father began to speak, but insisted in keeping her composure. With witnesses before them to ensure the King's decision became the final decision before his death, it was by then, and there established that Midna was named the successor of the next Sovereign of the Twilight Realm. The rest... well~ You could already guess how the rest of this was going, right?
Zant didn't take it lightly. No sir, he didn't~ Overwhelmed with rage, he exploded like a volcano, flailing about like an unruly child with no sense of where to direct his frustration. Midna could only shake her head with disappointment. If it weren't for the look in his eyes, that look that told of glowing greed within his beady yellow eyes, then perhaps he may have had a shot at the throne as well. He was far too blinded with greed to realize why father didn't pick him. In the end, he had to be shamefully carted away by two messengers, and away from the scene. "Forgive him," she requested of her dying father, "Even if he doesn't deserve it."
His time was coming to a close. Midna bowed her head respectfully to the king of the Twilight honored by his wish that he picked her as the next Twilight Sovereign. A small tear trickled down her blue tinted cheeks escaping from her glassy scarlet eyes.

With Midna's whispers, the Twili began to whisper in hushed voices. It didn't take long for the whispers to reach the shade. Though to be honest, it took him a while for him to figure it out, as a lot of those whispers ended up getting extremely screwed up during the whole passing on. But he was able to eventually figure out that Midna had apparently asked for her dad to forgive her brother. Odd, considering how she usually was. Perhaps there was more to the newly chosen Twilight Princess than Dark Link knew.
Things took a turn for somber though very quickly. The king reached out, gently grasping Midna's hand with his, and breathed his last. The Twili all went silent, deathly silent, not a single sound could be heard. No quiet murmurs, not even the occasional cough. It seemed that for but a moment, the entire Twilight Realm just shut down. The shadow couldn't help but wonder for a moment just how Midna up front was taking this. The big guy had lowered him to the ground after all. He knew how Zant took it. Right now, he probably didn't care his dad just died, if he knew. He was too busy being an asshat.
The guards bowed their heads in a moment of silence before turning, and began to usher out the Twili, to give Midna, their new ruler, some time to think, some time to herself. Eventually, Dark Link found himself being ushered out with the rest of them. He wouldn't fight it, lest it seem way too suspicious. Instead, he just followed suit. He would have to confront the princess later on though, there was something that he could make from this. [/blockquote] [EXIT]

Midna's scarlet eyes opened wide the moment she felt the King's - no, her father's hand grasp onto hers. With his silent departure the room went quiet. If one were to drop a pin onto the floor everyone could hear it ring throughout the palace. For a moment, the Twilight Princess was lost in the tragedy unfolding before her very eyes. She took no notice of the world around her as everyone began to depart from the castle. They had come to pay their respects, and now that has been concluded, it was time for all to go home, and have everything settle in.
She was now the leader of the Twili.
The sovereign of Twilight.
Rising up to her feet, she took a step forward to her father's deathbed. There was not a pulse to be found within or upon his cadaveric form. She gently placed his hand on top of his torso, folding his hands so that he looked peaceful. His eyelids were lowered; never to open again to see the tranquil light of the Sols ever again, illuminating the palace under his reign, which ended much too soon.
Now it was all under her control.
This was goodbye for the last time. She summoned forth her guards to take away his body, and have everything prepared for the King's burial. When it was all taken cared off, all she was left was a palace, a stone cold throne, and a city now watching her every single move. The carefree days of the past have come to end, and it was time to show realm cast in eternal twilight what the princess was made on~
