Merik began to rock back and forth as he held Din, trying his best to comfort her (though he'd be the first to admit he was really not the best person to go to for comfort).
"Din, all the Gerudo do not hate you...honestly most don't even know and the ones that did have since learned what your mother did. How she treated you...the way she raised you wasn't right; you were hurt, angry, and scared and you fought back." he said as he held her a little tighter. "You can come back to the desert, hell you could go back to the village if you wanted to, but no one is going to stop you from coming back home if you want to come back."

"You left," Din growled out of nowhere. Her tears had vanished as quickly as they had come. "You left, Merik. You abandoned our Mother and went to live on the ocean. That's blasphemy."
And then she tried to stab him in the stomach.

Merik returned the growl as Din's blade stabbed into him, though his hand slowly slid back around the front of her to close over her hand and the knife.
"The words of two of the Lady's priestesses, told to me in the lower levels of her Temple, called for us to go to the sea. It is not our place to question her will." he said calmly as he applied a little pressure to her hand to press the knife deeper.
"It'll be a shame if I ever allow you to kill me, having to live with the unending question of whether you were actually the best or if I really did let you win...though I suppose that would wind up as a victory for me with you left all alone with no one strong enough to challenge you."
He gave her a dark smile as he pulled her hand back and slid the blade out of him once more. He then rose and walked away from her, the room briefly illuminating and filling with faint scent of burnt flesh as he summoned Flamestrike and pressed it against the little wound before turning to look at her across from him.

Din only laughed as she looked at the splash of red soaking her hand as Merik pulled away. He could still bleed. He could still die. He wasn't a god. She had to remember that. He was a mortal man who could bleed and die and would scream like a pig when she finally gutted him from groin to neck and buried her hands up to her elbows in his insides.
"You're a fool, listening to their whispers," she droned as she stared at the blood on her hands. "The whispers of the sands are all the guidance I need. Unlike you, I don't take orders from my inferiors."
She seemed completely frozen, as if time had stopped. Her every muscle was completely tensed, her expression one of infinite focus as she brought her hands to her mouth and started licking them clean of Merik's blood.

Merik chuckled as Din began licking his blood from her hand, fighting back to the urge to burst into full laughter. Though the chuckle was full of warmth, the looks his eyes gave her was cold as the grave.
"Well I suppose that explains why you haven't done a damn thing worthwhile since you left. Listening for the whispers of the sand when you haven't been home to listen. Just waiting for something to tell you what to do because you're too fucking pathetic to make up your own mind." he snapped in a voice that both was and wasn't his own as he finally allowed some of his irritation to break on the pathetic child he saw before him. "You are your mother's daughter through and through, she was too weak to do anything with herself so she beat the hell out of you in the hopes you'd be worth something someday and all that managed to do was make you crazed enough to kill her and repeat the cycle. One day the only thing you'll have managed to do is have a daughter of your own and you'll treat her like your mother treated you until she kills you too."

Din didn't react to Merik's words for a long while. And when she did, all she did was float over to Merik and kiss him deeply. Intimately. When it was done, she smiled warmly at him. "You're right. You're absolutely right."
And then she left.
